3.6 Pentastar made in Michigan and Mexico

I didn't realize that the 3.6 was also made in mexico. I know regular cab Ram 1500"s are made in Saltillo Mexico. I would be interested to see if any of the mexican 3.6's made their way into any Grand Cherokee's?

I don't even know if there is a way too find out. Apparently, there have been quality issues with the cams and other parts of the 3.6 made in Mexico. In fact, they got rid of one or two of the upper management running the Mexico plant as a result of the issues.

What I'm trying to get at is, I wonder if the issues folks are having with the 3.6 are all originating from engines made in Saltillo Mexico?

I had a 2006 Jetta TDI made in Mexico and that will be the last car I get made in Mexico.

You're wrong. Saltillo plant make the Hemi 5.7 not the Pentastar. Also, RAM's 1500, 2500, Laramie, etc in single, quad and crewcab.

Mexico has excelent manufacturing plants, many cars are worlwide export. Audi is about to open a new facility, BMW 3 series, VW has 3 plants, Ford, Fiat, Chevrolet and so on.

The 3.6 is made in both the USA and Mexico. It will say on your window sticker what the country of origin is. My 3.6 was made in Mexico and the tranny in Germany. When I bought mine most of the 3.6's on the lot were made in Mexico but some were USA. Your not going to find a vehicle that don't have some parts made in other countries. Heck, the new Ford Mustang's manual tranny is made in China. The wheels on your GC were probably made in China as well (mine are, just look on the inside wheel).

Mexico V6 here. 20 years ago I would have scoffed at a Mexican engine. With today's quality inspections I trust it as much as one made in the USA. If the engine had an assembled in China sticker on it, I would not buy it. Its going to take 20 more years to erase the "Made in China" bias from my mind.

Re: 3.6 Pentastar made in Michigan and Mexico

I would think if given the choice, most of us would choose a USA engine. With that being said I think when the 8 speed becomes available it will be build at the Indiana plant. This would raise the domestic content also

Re: 3.6 Pentastar made in Michigan and Mexico

The Pentastars are built at both trenton mi and the mexico plant. It seems lately that a lot of the ones from mexico are going into the grand cherokee. I know mine was built in mexico. It seems most of the ones going in the minivans are from the MI plant. Also all the pentastars in the wrangler are from the MI plant because it has a different casting for the alternator that only comes from that plant. As far as the trans for the pentastar it was built in Indiana on the 2011's but that plant is being retooled for the 8 speed so for the 12's they have been getting them from Germany.

so why don't you throw your keyboard and mouse in the trash can, plus 90% of the stuff in your house too, how about your Apple products?

My keyboard is made in Malaysia and mouse in Singapore. I didn't say I liked it, as I fully believe that most stuff coming out of China is Junk. All I said is that after 20 years of problem free "made in China" stuff, then I'll buy into china as a viable, quality manufacturer of goods.
