A third row is not uselss if you have two kids in a car seat and one not. Our other vehicle (Tahoe and now traverse LTZ) has 2nd row buckets with a 3rd row and is perfect for this setup. Our 6yr old can hop in and go to the 3rd row on his own and the two younger ones sit in the car seats in each bucket. It's as practical as a minivan minus the power sliding doors, while not being a minivan. However, the enclave/acadia/traverse is not far from looking like one.

except when u want to haul anything with your kids... not much space behind the third row for strollers etc.. hence why i feel its worthless..plus i would rather not have to climb in to strap someone...in my jeep my daughter the oldest climbs in to the middle, buckles herself and all i have to do is check and pull the harness tight.. not an inconvenience at all IMHO

ugly was never used in my posts if your referring to me..i actually think the odyssey is pretty nice looking..just not what i want in a vehicle..

Thanks for the specs on the 2 vehicles, glad you have nothing else to do to bring out all kinds of specs.. my seats will NEVER be folded down so that means nothing to me(once again, i have a truck so if i need long cargo area, i use the truck), and the slight difference in with all seats up cubic space is no biggy..

When I have kids, I will. No need for it now. We had a minivan when I was a kid, just when minivans were first around (we had a Ford Aerostar, grey & silver two tone and grey interior with red piping. Doesn't get much uglier than that!). I can't imagine not having that van as a kid when we went to go visit family and everyone would pile in our van and go places together, or when we would take my friends somewhere.

As per Edmunds a 2012 Honda Odyssey has 38.4 cu/ft of cargo room, with ALL SEATS IN PLACE. Total cargo area when all the seats are stowed is 148.5 cu/ft.

As per Edmunds a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 35.1 cu/ft with all seats in place. So 3.3 cu/ft LESS room than an Odyssey even with the third row up! With the second row stowed it has 68.7 cu/ft. Less than half that of an Odyssey.

Its not a longer cargo area like the Jeep, but its more than enough room for 3 strollers on top of each other and luggage. Need more space? Just get a thule cargo box for the top. I know, I loaded the Jeep and an Odyssey last weekend.

Who cares about the facts right? You want the "rugged" looking Jeep over the more functional and comfortable minivan. Vanity decision, case closed.

Absolutely the same experience I've heard from everyone who has one.

Yeah, I may keep the Jeep as my primary vehicle, or get a newer higher optioned one and then get an Odyssey for my wife.

Nobody's saying the Jeep isn't a great vehicle, I LOVE the Jeep, its probably one of my favorite cars I've ever had, but its not a good family vehicle IMHO, nor is any SUV.
my jeep with 20's looks far from "rugged" it looks good but far from rugged.. once again, like you said, with seats up its not as long as cargo area as the jeep, which is why i preferred the jeep.. go find more facts as to why my family of 5 should be in a van instead of the jeep..

you said it yourself...your daught buckles herself. We don't put a car seat in the 3rd row, hence the reason the oldest sits in the far back, so no need to climb in to buckle. As far as cargo, it has more then enough for most things. plus the 3rd row is a 60/40 and when the 60 is down there's actually more cargo room then there is in the back of the wk2. We took it to FL last month and didn't even use a hitch rack or rooftop carrier. two adults and three kids along with all of our luggage, stroller, beach gear, etc. again, this is a GM crossover with rear buckets and 3rd row...Not sure about the durango's configuration and cargo options, but I imagine the 3rd row can be at least split 50/50 which provides a lot of extra cargo space.

I also said I have to check it and tighten the harness on her carseats

fair enough, but it all comes down to age. I would think in most cases if having 3 kids, majority of the time the oldest will be able to buckle. unless ages are 3, 2, and 1.

Well we are at 3.5, 2, and 5 months haha. I am in no way saying a wk2 is better than any 3 row suv or a minivan at hauling kids.. I'm just defending my decision and happiness using one to haul 3 kids... Works great for me. Maybe not for others but that's why we have choices..

haha...then yes, 3 across is the ideal way right now. we are almost 7, 3.5, and 11 months.

LOL, you totally miss the point. You stated that with all three rows in the Odyssey up you would not have as much room to haul luggage and such. Thats not true, and in fact the Odyssey with all three rows up has MORE room than the Jeep with only two rows, and has WAY more room than the Jeep when it only has two rows up.

All I did was go to Edmunds.com and look it up. Took all of two minutes. Don't be bitchy because your statement was proven to be inaccurate.

LOL, not any more you're not.
And you keep missing my point, I have a truck if I need more cargo than my jeep has...and it will haul all 5 of us too...

This thread is about 3 kids in a wk2 and how it works

I provided my input...

You came in making statements on how stupid or crazy it was to have 3 kids in an suv..

I always see your name stirring the pot with your my practicality is better than yours shit.. No bitching here. Just having convo about jeeps.. I dont need a know it all on a forum to say I didn't make a justified decision on buying a jeep for a family car.. Once again, YOU DON'T live the daily life of a parent of three.. Until you do, dont tell me buying a jeep and having 3 across is a mistake or crazy or however you put it...

To the OP, I'm loving the jeep as a family hauler... Some people push minivans.. And think that's te only way you should roll when having a family...
