Someone is dyslexic. It gets 23 mpg highway, not 32.

Re: 32 MPG Jeep V6 Pentastar?

Was it a "Canadian" poster?

We are Metric, but people always refer to Imperial Gallons-which are slightly bigger than US gallons.

The Canadian ads state: 8.9/L/100 km or 32 MPG (Imperial).
They also state 1000km (600 miles) per tank (highway) as well.

I find it interesting, as I don't think that anyone will hit those numbers. Also you can't buy a 4x2 in Canada, all are 4x4's. That further reduces the actual MPG's, making 32 MPG's even less attainable.

Re: 32 MPG Jeep V6 Pentastar?

Actually none of it makes sense for a Pentastar:
3.79 liters per US gallon
.6214 miles/km
So 8.9 liters/100 km = 62.14 miles on 2.35 U$ gallons = 26.44 MPG.

That sounds like what I have seen for the diesel (also a V6).

BTW the 4x2 and 4x4 have the same highway rating here. What does not make sense is that is also the rating for a 4x2 Laredo and a 4x4 Overland (about 600 lbs difference in weight)

ps after the first fuel crisis, it was popular to make "economy runs" from Phoenix to LA. I-10 & downhill all the way. Tucson>LA would have been better but then would need to go through Phoenix & probably could not do on one tank (suspect the WK2 could - possible advertising promo few could match ? My digital dash displays instant MPG to the tenth of a MPG so could find ideal speed/configuration easily. Be an excuse to vist my sister).

UMMMMM

THE PRIUS, A HYBRID, recharges as you drive it

e-85, where all other things are the same, gets 20-30% LESS gas mileage.

the first gas crisis was in 1973......i guess those TANKS from the era, heading downhill, would/could get some hairy gas mileage.

However, Cdn Gallon(Imperial Gallon) =4.55 liters, which is 20% more than the US Gallon.

So, 26.44MPG x 1.20 =31.7 MPG (Imperial) ~ 32 mpg

Re: 32 MPG Jeep V6 Pentastar?

Yeah, the Transport Canada figures for mileage of the Pentastar V6 (and 4x4 no less, since there are no Canadian 2WD GCs) state 32 mpg highway fuel consumption (or 8.9 L/100 kms).

Keep in mind:
- Canadian (Imperial) gallon is exactly 20% bigger than US gallon.
- Canadian fuel test run is NOT the same as the US EPA test loop (the US loop gives far better approximation of achievable mileage in real conditions).
- tests are done by the car companies in Canada, not the government. So while I believe they all try to be accurate, if rounding or test 'errors' occur, you guess which way they tend to go.

In summary, no human can achieve 32mpg with a Pentastar WK2 in realistic conditions over a tankful, even using Imperial gallons. Slightly more than 25mpIg can be achieved in ideal conditions, but even that is not usual.

Re: 32 MPG Jeep V6 Pentastar?

No, read exactly what I rote, it's not what you think I rote . Look at it this way: 17 mpg (highway) on E-85. 24.6 gallons goes 418.2 miles. 24.6 gallons of E85 has 3.69 gallons of gasoline. 418.2 miles / 3.69 gallons = 113.33 mpg of gasoline (said "like"). If you have a still in the back yard, you can fill the rest of the tank with that.

Reason I am making this absurd comparison, is that you may get 53 mpg of gasoline in a hybred, but if you need to plug it in at night then you are adding other energy just as if I fill the rest of my tank with 'shine. It must be paid for, just not at the gas pump.

Still think the poster was referring to a diesel because I have seen that same 8.9 gal/100 km figure mentioned before for an export market that gets that engine.

I hate to be nitpicky but cars of that era were bigger, not heavier. Case in point: I have a 1967 full size Ford Galaxie that (seats 5 with front buckets, 6 if a front bench) weighs under the UHaul trailer limit of 3700 lbs. My 2006 Mustang is said to weigh about 3600 lbs and is a much smaller 4 seater.

All the creature comforts (power heated vented seats, AC std - front and rear systems in some cases- , 10 speaker sound systems), safety cages, door bars within the doors, 20 inch wheels and multi seat airbags add a lot of weight.

Does Canada use 10% Ethanol in gas? Or varying degrees of other Emissions reducing additives decreed by the equivalent of the US EPA? If not, that would also add to better Canadian MPG...
