Re: 4.7 vs New V6

Definitely won't get you off the line and tow like the 4.7L, but the 3.6L is way better than the old 4.0L, as I had 2 of them. Loved that engine for reliability, but in the Grand Cherokee the 4.0L was a total dog.

In the lighter normal Cherokee it was quite nice. The 3.6L in the Grand Cherokee feels comparable to how the regular Cherokee did with the 4.0L.

Re: 4.7 vs New V6

The 3.6L gets great numbers (0-60) in the JK. In the heavier WK2 it feels anemic off the line but fine after it gets going. Test drive the hell out of one. Only you will know if it floats your boat.

Re: 4.7 vs New V6

The 3.6 gets the job done for sure and it can still move on the highway when needed. It doesn't have the greatest low end torque, but higher in the rev's the SUV will move pretty fast. But this is a SUV its not designed to win ANY speed contests. Its 5000 pounds of metal. If you want to go fast but a sports car that can handle the speed. A Hemi and a v6 handle the same remember! Actually the Hemi is probably worse due to even more weight up front.

Re: 4.7 vs New V6

Is this the same 4.7 that they put in the Dodge Durango? I had this engine in my durango, it was a 1st gen. I think that the 3.6 is a better engine. I dont miss the 4.7 at all. I am getting almost 2x the gas milage. I was getting 12-14 on the highway with the 4.7 Now I get 20-22 with the 3.6. I can still tow my double jetski trailer with a full load and no issues. I always felt the 1st gen 4.7 was a weak engine, sounded nice though.

Re: 4.7 vs New V6

I currently have the 1st gen 4.7 with HO cams, springs, cai and a few other mods and it gets about 19 highway on a 93 sct tune

Re: 4.7 vs New V6

I have the second gen 4.7 in my 08 Laredo. It is a real nice engine with a suprisingly mean growl stock. I can get 20-21 mpg highway.

I test drove the new 3.6 and have to say it wasn't all that bad compared to the second gen 4.7L Certainly didn't have the same growl, but it wasn't much worse as a far as pick up goes (based on the limited amount I drove it)

I will say though, I plan to keep my 08 Laredo for some time as it really is a great vehicle and engine. Again, the lifetime powertrain warranty they had on them in 08 certainly helps.
