Re: 4Runner Comparison

I had a 4th gen 4runner and it looked wayyyy better than the new generation...the new one is just too utilitarian for my taste, but the one thing I do wish my WK2 had was a center locking diff that was standard on my sports edition and the Xreas suspension was nice (limited body roll). Oh on the topic of broncos, I had a 85 full size with a 3 inch lift and 35's... Literally unstoppable. The guy who owned it before me had no carpet or anything really, bc he used it for deer hunting.

Either way, I love my jeep, loved my bronco and loved my 4runner....

from time to time I drive past a giant Toyota warehouse here in southern California. I'm sure it is not just full of filters and body panels....

I agree to an extent but this applies to most SUV these days given the flat hatchback trunk design as opposed to a sedan and other styles. Your sentiments could also reflect the fact that these days the minivans are looking more SUV in style and function. Yet the SUMMIT and SRT rears are anything but minivan.

Yup, agree. Wind tunnel testing has done great harm to vehicle appearance for many models. The CUV/SUV distinction is narrowing. And of course, there are only maybe 5 manufacturers left in the world, yet we still have 37 different badges

I'm partial to the 2011-2013 rear, a little more rigid. The soft edges of my 2014 don't exactly look angry. That being said, it could be worse, we could have a Pathfinder!

Unfortunately, the Grand is one of the only SUVs out there, period (fortunately, it's the best vehicle on the planet). Most other manufacturers have gone to lifting their FWD station wagons 1/2" and calling them SUVs. Off the top of my head, the 4Runner is the only other SUV in existence right now, and it doesn't even offer a V8!

Re: 4Runner Comparison

i had the 87 4Runner with the removable roof. Liked that one a lot and did a lot of 4-wheeling but it was rusting out.

I had the 96 4Runner and 2003 Sequoia, both good vehicles. All of the newer Toyota SUV's look like crap. I have how they are so angular.

The GC is truly a great looking SUV and drives nice too

I had the 86 and 95 4Runners. Both were great offroad, but I did prefer the 86 to the 95. The only complaint I had about the 86 was the automatic hubs. I pulled those and put manual ones in after the auto ones got stuck in 4WD when I went over a parking lot divider. I thought that was a bit junky. Dealer did it for me under warranty though.

Yup.

But to be fair, I consider the new Pathfinder a minivan. I suppose technically the "new" SUV/CUV market has just been a crossover between SUV and minivan.

OK, now I have myself confused!!!

I felt the 11-13 was more "convincing" as a tougher looking rear end.

Look, I bought a '14 so apparently it wasn't that bad, right?
