Re: 4x4 in Florida??

I would never buy a Jeep WITHOUT 4x4, no matter where I lived. Plenty of beaches in FL to play with it on.

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

It sounds like the tribe has spoken... 4x4 is the clear cut winner. I guess blasting thru some kid's sand castle on the beach will have to suffice.

I appreciate everyone's perspective.

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

I think its pretty unanoumous.

In fact I don't even think they should make 2-wheel drive Jeeps
Its kinda like making a boat that can't go in the water, or a plane that doesn't fly.

better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

you need 4x4 to run over hippies and gators

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

You can imagine that since most members of this forum have 4x4 that 4x4 would be responses. I agree, but not due to the move up north. I agree due to resale and the fact that some parts of FL have some good dirt trails and roads where 4x4 would be helpful.

Good call out on resale. Although I don't expect to take a Summit too far off the beaten path. Even in swamp land.

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

The difference is so funny. I almost got run off the "other" Jeep forum responding to a similar question. I just don't understand a 2x4 Jeep. When you buy a Jeep you buy into the capability, the whole point of the Grand Cherokee is to get you and your family wherever you want to go in comfort and luxury no matter where the destination is and in any kind of weather. A 2x4 Jeep has none of that capability, it's almost like a "pretend Jeep" to me.

I started off being very diplomatic but a couple people just lampooned me because of my opinion. So funny that it's 100% the opposite here.

So, I'd get the 4x4. My cousin bought a 2WD Patriot while he was living in FL and I told him to get the 4x4 then. He's moved back home now and REALLY regrets getting the 2WD. Getting the 4x4 now will be much cheaper than trading later.

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

I live in Florida. totally agree with 4x4 as only option, why?. simple. WK2 is 4x4 fulltime, you get better traction, response, and more safety drive condition on wet road.

Re: 4x4 in Florida??

I'm in SC and went with 4x4. I only have QT1, but for resale/residual alone it essentially paid for itself (leasing).

I do sometimes find myself on some forest service roads up in the mountains of NC. Actually drove about 35 miles of trail roads last time I had the JGC up there - performed perfectly and was nice to have. I probably could have done it with just a 4x2, but on some steep and narrow bits, it was nice to have.

No regrets on 4x4 decision here. Even if I'm just driving in the rain (like today), I appreciate the extra grip.
