I agree 100%.. They rushed the release, and I don't know why because the 13" GC was more than capable of running till end of 2013..

We'll never understand the way automobile manufactures think

money, everything is always about what they think will make the most money not necessarily what seems to make the most sense

I would have paid for that safer car with few additional features...These early 2014s are mass produced test mules, running the 2013 left-over parts...

+1

I've enjoyed my many trips on the beach this summer that I would have missed if I still had my Acura.

I have never looked at safety ratings before buying a vehicle. Not saying it isn't important, just not a priority for me.

As for why they released early, I wonder how many '14s were sold between January and September compared to the estimates Jeep had for what the would sell if the continued with the 13s. I'll 'guess' the '14 sales were considerably higher.

Re: 5-Stars for 14" Grand Cherokee!

Could trying to capture sales from other manufacturers by having the "latest thing" out for the "look at me" crowd.

Or more likely tied to parts supplies, and inventory management. All those parts have to be bought. There is some lag time on paying suppliers, but they are going to want thier checks, and the accountants want to keep that liability as low as they can. Looks good on the books for 2013 to have sales.

Back to price increases. Milous posted this on another thread:
2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Also, vehicles are being designed to be safer all the time, so you can wait for safer, or buy when you need a new vehicle.

not_too_shabby has a brilliant future
MSRP change doesn't really matter much when local dealers are now discounting V8 overlands with tech package $7000. No way you could get that price back in April. I should have waited. Grrrr.

Re: 5-Stars for 14" Grand Cherokee!

if you go to safercar.gov, you can get the test data for the first one and limited info on the second. The report is not available for the more recent test. But they were performed by different entities in behalf of the Gov.; only the report will give us the insight what contributed to the difference.

Now, I am curious as well as upset. I should have waited and got a better, safer car. But the questions I have are along these lines. Is there an actual build difference or is it variability in testing? Did the old crash structure compress let's say 5 cm and that made it 4 star whereas the new car crash structure collapsed 4.5 cm and now it warrants 5 stars? Or is it a 5 cm difference in compression and changes to the structures that makes the difference in safety rating?

or is it very ... Basic stuff like the bolts for the seat rails that are now of some other stronger alloy and none broke during the test whereas 1 broke in the old one? We can speculate, but we must have both reports first. And the more recent report has not yet been approved for release.

Hearing stuff like from this thread just makes me more pissed.

But your pissed before we even know if the car is different or the test is different. At least wait until you're sure you have something to be pissed about.

'Tis the season to be JOLLY!
