I should have waited and got a better, safer car. But the questions I have are along these lines. Is there an actual build difference or is it variability in testing? Did the old crash structure compress let's say 5 cm and that made it 4 star whereas the new car crash structure collapsed 4.5 cm and now it warrants 5 stars? Or is it a 5 cm difference in compression and changes to the structures that makes the difference in safety rating? or is it very ... Basic stuff like the bolts for the seat rails that are now of some other stronger alloy and none broke during the test whereas 1 broke in the old one? We can speculate, but we must have both reports first. And the more recent report has not yet been approved for release.
The table that shows the two tests shows slightly different dimensions for the vehicle. I wonder if they were different trim levels.

We'll never understand the way automobile manufactures think
They may be of the opinion that schedule is also part of the feature list.

How much of a bump in the sales curve can be reasonably traced to the 8 speed and newer interiors and electronic gewgaws of the '14 model [leaving off the issue of their functionality--because there is one really nice thing about software vs hardware].

I had been looking ever since the WK2 came out. Nice looking. But looking is as far as it went until the ZF transmission became available. So I bought a bit early. And have done 2 Uconnect upgrades [both seamless and event-free] and need to have a few firmware updates some day. Despite the heart attacks at NHTSA over the recall, it is really a yawner at least on my May build specimen.

Or more likely tied to parts supplies, and inventory management. All those parts have to be bought. There is some lag time on paying suppliers, but they are going to want thier checks, and the accountants want to keep that liability as low as they can. Looks good on the books for 2013 to have sales.
Thats actually a good point. Wonder if the sales forecasts on the '13 models were too modest due to the sucky economy and they were running low on parts to build them, so decided to bite the bullet [probably with full expectations there would be glitches] and release the '14.

From what I know of the sales curves, it appears to have been a smart business move, profit-wise.

Aww stick a block of wood so the seats don't go so far forward and get all the current TSBs installed. Stay away from idiots in the other lanes, and who needs one more star?

If you want to make the highways really safe, find a way to control the behavior of people behind the steering wheel!

I'm on good behavior behind the wheel when everyone on the road stays out of my way. As soon as some jackass gets in front of me driving slower, it's rage time!

A turbo and/or nitrous kit for the 5.7 would be nice, and probably more acceptable than a recoilless rifle mounted Rat Patrol style.
