I one thing I don't get is unless you love changing your own oil why do it? Just the oil itself costs around $18-$20 or more and with coupons you can get an oil change at the dealer for $24.99, lol

For me, it would be because I can do it at my desired time, on my schedule. The few times I let the dealership do it, they always took what seemed like ten years to do the job or to get around to doing it, even though there was appointment time (that's another things I hate - gotta have an appointment). Yeah, I'm not that fast about it myself, but at least I can schedule myself.
The last time I let the dealership do it, I made an appointment early in the morning to get it done before I go to work. I think it took them over an hour. When I got the car back, I learned that they spent some of that hour washing the car. I'd rather have had a dirty car than have been late for work. "never again", I said.

Re: 5 year maintenance package

I got lifetime oil changes as well. I negotiated the price upfront, then after all said and done I said I will sign right now if I get free oil changes for life......DONE!!!;0)

Royal purple is 8-9 dollars a quart x 7 quarts; its a lot more then 20 bucks.. lol

Considering the "bulk" oil does the similar thing, however I do think all vehicles should be synthetic by now, why are they still using conventional oil? Cheaper I know...

Mobil1 is a great value though.

Because when you do it yourself you are guaranteeing no high school shmuck or incompetent mechanic is abusing your vehicle or rushing and doing things improperly. I took my previous car to the dealer once and from that point forward did all my own maintenance. After 11 years, the car has been problem free and I have saved tons of money.

Agreed.
Things like leaving the gasket of the old filter stuck to the block there, then screwing the new filter on. Cross threading or over tightening the drain bolt. I know it is rare but...
I like to do it myself because things like changing my oil or detailing my car are cheap therapy for me.

Re: 5 year maintenance package

I used to really like doing my own oil changes etc.,but frankly I just don't have the time, space or place to get rid of the old oil anymore. In the long run; for me, it's "cheaper" to have the dealership do it.
