500 Mile Review

My first review of the new 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland I purchased two weeks ago.

What I got:

2014 GC Overland V6 with only the remote CD player. What I wanted was the ORII, and maybe the Advanced Technology Group. I definitely wanted the CRD, but the time to trade was now. The model I purchased was the right vehicle, at the right time, for the right price. I came from a 2011 Tahoe which was big and roomy with fair interior room. Problem with the Tahoe; it was not sexy, nothing special.

What I like. The Overland is very nice. Not too many things missing in the package. It has all the bells and whistles one would want in a luxury type vehicle. And I do consider the GC a luxury vehicle. It does so many things it makes your head spin trying to get your head wrapped around all the technology.

Have there been some disappointments? Yes, like the two button push to get things to work. Like the door locks (the door locks MAY have been my doing as I discovered I had my hand on the door once when it did not lock). Like the VR button. Like losing presets on the radio. But, overall, I am very pleased with the GC Overland. I know the honeymoon is still on, but dang it is a nice vehicle. Just today, the wife mentioned I really like the Jeep huh. I thought about it for a moment and exclaimed, yes I do.

Have I done anything to it yet? The only thing was putting gas in it, getting the front windows tinted, and a silly license plate holder that says, Jeep and Grand Cherokee. I still have to pick up the Jeep (Mopar) mats as the dealer had to order them. And, I will order the cargo mat as well. I will also purchase seat covers for the times we take the pups (two Labs) with us in the Jeep.

Will I do anything else to it? Yes, I want to pick up one of those hitch carriers and a water proof box when I need to have a little extra room. I will be adding the Jeep Garage banner I received in the mail to the back window. For some reason I received a black lettered version and a white version, so only one window will be advertising Jeep Garage.

I have the 20's and like the ride and look of the rims and tires. I do go off road but nothing extreme. I have been thinking about putting on the skid plates and probably will in the near future, but for now it is fine.

Uconnect has been fine. No issues other than losing presets on the radio once. The memory seats have been a slight issue, but more than likely I am doing something wrong.

The vehicle just rides very quiet and smooth. Transmission shifts very smooth and none of the clunking that has been reported on some. I have tried sports mode and the little V6 is quite peppy. Would I have liked the 5.7? Sure. After all, the hemi has had bragging rights for a long time now. Still, in today's economy, the savings on fuel is good at this point in my life.

Lastly, man, I want to thank all who have posted tidbits about the 2014. I spent many hours pouring over these forums before I stepped foot into the dealership floor room. I have gathered a wealth of information from reading the good and bad reviews. My way of paying it back was to join Jeep Garage as a premium member. The knowledge I gained was well worth the little I paid to become premium. So thanks to all.

End of my first review. I hope to post a 1K and on review in the future. Right now, the honeymoon has not ended and the Overland is treating me just fine.

Re: 500 Mile Review

Glad you are enjoying the new Jeep. I agree, the Overland pretty much covers the necessities, plus some.

Congrats!
