The 5w40 should not make any problems, its better then the spec (and it does say nothing about the quality of the oil). 10W20 would be a no go.
You working for Jeep in Dubai?

No, but here in switzerland and in germany we have 10 and 12k Service intervals.

5W20 (Multigrade-Oil)

the first number, 5W
**
For example, if an oil passes at the specifications for 10W and 5W, but fails for 0W, then that oil must be labeled as an SAE 5W. That oil cannot be labeled as either 0W or 10W.

IMHO, for example a 10W Oil does not pass the specification for a 5W Oil.

the second number, 20
IMHO, its the same just in the other way. 40 passes the specification for 20.

**
The motor oil grade and viscosity to be used in a given vehicle is specified by the manufacturer of the vehicle (although some modern European cars now have no viscosity requirement), but can vary from country to country when climatic or fuel efficiency constraints come into play.

But at the end, if your not happy with it, change the oil back to 5W20, most of the time that oil is less expensive too.

Why we need think so much?
The manual say 5W20 for V8....
And change every 13.000km or one year or as the EVIC ask to change (the first come).

Exactly. That is the point I am trying to make, but Jeep Dealer here believes they know better than the manufacturer and insists on doing it their way.

Re: 5w25

This is interesting. I went to the dealer here to buy oil for my first oil change (4.7 V8). I asked for 5w30 as that's what I'd read was used, but dealer said they use 5w40

.. but the continental US Highways, German unlimited Autobahn, the Deserts of Dubai or the north of Alaska are maybe some different story.

But anyway, if "Jeep Dubai" says every 10'000km, you can maybe get some problems with the warranty when you go for 12'000 intervals.

But i think, Dunecrawler's EVIC will cry for oil change sooner

Re: 5w25

BTW EVIC "Oil Change" came on at 11 400km (Dealer did not reset, did not fill in the service in the manual/service book and used the wrong oil).

Jeep/Chrysler engineers perform durability tests in all extremes to which the vehicle is subject. They can perform all the hot and cold test in the US, we have locations within our boarders that match, or exceed those found in Europe or the middle east. BTW there are more miles of long distance highway where you can easily and safely run in excess of 100MPH in Montana or Nevada then all the remaining unlimited sections of the autobahn. I don't think there is any quantitative evidence that invalidates the specifications outlined by the manufacturer regardless how qualified the local individuals may think they are.

Oh, and you're wrong about oil viscosity specs. The API specifications are quite clear. 20W oil is 20W, not 30W or 40W that didn't somehow pass a test.

I don't agree here - 5W30 passes all tests for 5W20.

Re: 5w20

i wouldn't let them do this, that is why I am always getting my own oil and never go to dealer for oil change.

If you don't have a printed version, it is available as a PDF from Chrysler.

Explanation is very simple - that is oil they probably got only in stock :-)
