Re: 9500 Mile update

I will try to get a shot of the tailgate this weekend. I can live with it I guess, but it's a defect nonetheless. I still have the option of having it fixed, the dealership said it wouldn't be an issue, although they said their body shop would have to handle that (the same body shop that only adequately fixed the drilled holes in my front bumper - you can still kinda see where the holes were - and they also left a paint blemish on the front bumper as well). The water issue was there from the start (check my early posts), from when first picked up the car. The water issue I feel is unacceptable. It was supposedly a bad AC hose, but I picked up the car in March and hadn't even used the AC really. Maybe it was from the rain water during the time the car was on the dealer lot, although when I went and saw it for the first time, they had it indoors at a warehouse a few blocks from the dealership. So where the heck did that water come from? The transmission makes a thumping noise and the car jerks, but this only happens at low speeds. So I've been dealing with that. If it gets worse, than I'll have them look at that as well. Although I guess there may be a tranny TSB at some point for the Hemi. These new issues (blind spot and auto wiper malfunction) literally popped up this past weekend. Check my posts, you'll see where I asked Willx if it could be connected to my U-Connect issues. Maybe I jinxed myself with all of my worrying, who knows. But I am not imagining any of this. I wish I was.

Calm down Francis. If in the span of 3 weeks a person can go from no problems to every 2014 is a lemon, yeah, there might be a bit of a credibility issue. Either before or after. If you read the thread... I was attempting to be understanding but bill was kind enough to point out I was a bit of a fool in taking this gentlemans claims at face value.

Credibility?? Surely you're not suggesting that I am making this stuff up. Surely you've gone back and read my posts, both good and bad. Has this thread really devolved to the point where we need to question ones credibility? You can take my claims any you want as far as I'm concerned because you're a fuc**ng idiot.

I posted this back on June 6th:

Re: Sloshing sound from under the car

I have a '14 and I could have sworn I heard the dreaded sloushing sounds but actually thought it was my imagination because the truck is so new. Now I really need to check this out based on this...

I don't think I'd be as patient as you are with some of those making this a personal matter or otherwise serving as excuse makers.....

As a person VERY seriously considering a '14 Overland after years of BMWs I find these threads of great interest. While all vehicles can have issues, how a manufacturer handles them says much. I readily admit to being fairly leery after seeing virtually EVERY Overland/Summit at the dealer have misaligned panels and reading these threads. True, mostly those with issues post, bit still......

Check my earlier posts, you'll see where I complained of the "water slosh" phenomena and the UConnect issues. I also had other stuff pop up as well (tranny, misaligned hatch etc), but I wasn't as concerned with that so I didn't complain.
Understood, thanks for the response.

Re: 9500 Mile update

Day 4 and 5. This is long and I promise I won't post any more long post, but when I left today after spending two hours I won't be back. Somehow I believe many of you are going through the same thing.
I am realizing that some of the issues I have are because it is new technology. Maybe introduced too soon. Probably before Jeep trained Dealers to deal with the issues. Other issues I'm having are stemming from my service department. When I pick up my GC tomorrow morning I will never darken their service lane or Showroom again.
I love my Jeep even with it's issues and I am understanding after spending so much time in the dealer and talking with so many great techs. It is not necessarily Jeeps fault with some of the problems we are having. Glitches with a new model are common.Taking care of them on a dealer level should not be. A poor dealer network will be the fall of Chrysler.
This morning at 9:30 I received a call from my service writer stating the rear glass (that was hitting the body) had been taken care of and the tailgate had been adjusted. I thought it was strange they could have both done by 9:30 since the GC had to be taken to the glass company. He also added that because it is glued in that they wanted to keep it inside for 24 hours so I could pick it up on day 5. I understood and he even said he would like me to look at it today to make sure it was to my satisfaction.
I said I would stop over this afternoon and take a look.
I arrived at the dealer and my service writer was busy and said he would be with me in a minute. So I waited and waited so thirty minutes latter I asked to see the service manager since I had asked him yesterday to make sure the vehicle was done correctly. He is nowhere to be found so they send the assistant over and we start going over my tickets. First she said they can not do the flash (TSB) on the tranny jerk because Chrstker does not have it in the system for the Southeast.? So we move on to the glass and the tailgate adjustment. Yes the tailgate and the glass issue has been completed. As well as the UConnent up date that they told me was done a month ago. She said they would bring the GC up so I could look at the rear glass that had been corrected. They couldn't find it again. I told her it was in the shop in one of the last bays. I also said the tailgate had not been aligned. Again she said yes it had and we went to look at the vehicle. She even called the BS manager and he said Oh yes it had been adjusted. It is still out of line. He opened the tailgate and I asked him which bolts they had loosened to adjust it and he pointed to the two on each side. If you put a wrench on painted bolts the paint flacks off. Anyway long story short, I told them I purposely cleaned the GC before the service and anytime a tech works on my vehicle I can tell anywhere he has had his hands on it. I have the black interior and a white exterior. No finger prints any where. He stumbles and said the glass company said they aligned it at one point. I'm thinking BS ! Plus the tailgate was still out of line. I had even marked it yesterday with Blue tape in front of the service manager where it need to be aligned. The service manager shows up and tells me the gate has not been aligned yet! I tell him I was just told by both the body shop person and the assistant that it has. He says Oh. And I ask him why he has not made sure it was completed per or conversation yesterday and he then tells me it has been adjusted. I raise the Gate and ask him to show me how they adjusted it and he points to the latch striker on the cargo floor. I will say the BS manager said earlier he wanted to make me happy and would adjust it again so I would be happy. Anyway It's not been touched. I'm not stupid.I say I'm done I'll pick it up in the morning. He makes a failed attempt to tell me what they have done to the gate and all I replay is I marked it yesterday with the blue tape and it has not been touched. I add there is no way the the glass company picked it up this morning R&R the rear glass and got it back to dealer for the BS to align the gate and have all this done by 9:30. Plus there is no evidence the gate was aligned.
What they have done is out and out lied to me from the first day I took it in last month saying the UConnect update had been done and today about the tailgate being aligned. I have never seen such a confused, disoriented service department. A service writer who works there that I knew from a Jaguar dealer even pulled me to side and said nobody at the dealer interacts with each other. He wished me luck. I was surprised when I walked through the waiting room at 2:00pm how many people where waiting on their cars. I spotted one guy who had been in the service lane yesterday with a GC.
For the first time since March I have been able to make a hands free call. The tech spent a lot of time with me and was really passionate about his job and making sure I understood what he had done to my GC.

On the alignment issue they said it checked out OK. I asked for the specs as they have to have them for a warranty ticket. I'm still waiting for them. He said I needed to have the tires rotated stating that was most of my problem. I said if I have only one front tire that is wearing uneven and we rotate in 4K I'll have two that are not wearing evenly. I said I would have someone else check the alignment. He looked puzzled and I said I need the specs again.
I'll go to another dealer form now on. I have letters to write and post to make about this dealer. The tailgate is not perfect and I probably will not have it adjusted but the glass is in straight and not hitting the body. I'll see if the update affects the performance of the ATC. I'll also see if another dealer can do the Tranny TSB update.

I promise no more long post!

JWS, I have a fairly early build Graphite Metallic '14 Overland. Last 6 digits of my VIN are 137537, so that's pretty early in the build cycle. It is a BEAUTIFUL truck. I LOVE looking at it and driving it. It is a real head turning (no SUV comes close in terms of appearance) and is one of the nicest highway cruisers I have ever driven. The technology is amazing (when working). I have posted some very good things about the truck, but also have posted about some very irritating issues I've been having. I love the truck and would like nothing better than for it to merely behave as if it were new. This is really all that I am asking for, my only expectation. I have no reason to misrepresent what I am experiencing. I mean, if I truly wanted to bash the GC, would not all of my posts be negative??? I heard water sloshing in my truck when I first got it in March but truly brushed it off as just my imagination (thought I was maybe just hearing things because the sloshing it wasn't constant). I mean, the truck was literally brand new. It was only because of Jeep Garage that I was able to discover that others were having the same issue that I came to realize that something was seriously wrong. At that point, I wanted to get rid of the thing (why should there be standing water in a new car). But my heart won out because I really like the truck. So once I took it to a dealership and they satisfactorily resolved the issue, I calmed down (this was the second dealership to whom I sought service, the first I went to was a disaster). But new issues seemed to pop up almost weekly, some relatively minor, some more significant. The minor issues you tend to ignore or overlook, the more serious ones you tend to gripe about. Why anyone would doubt the veracity of my story is beyond me. My Jeep listed for $51,675 (however I got the affiliate discount). In life you tend to hope you get what you pay for. Seemingly for many '14 owners, this is simply not the case. Why anyone would belittle me to this extent when I am merely expressing my frustration is evidence I suppose of how rapidly we've devolved as a society. There are literally a bunch of barbarians out there these days. I live across from a Catholic HS and you would not believe how things have changed. Many of these kids have no respect, no ethics no morals, it's truly scary. My mother (God rest her soul), weak and dying of leukemia, would go out to tell them to keep their voices down, and they would talk back to her. I almost killed one of them one day. So, seeing this kind of behavior on these forums is merely a reflection of our dysfunctional society.

Perhaps credibility was to strong of a word, you clearly have had some issues. But, as you have stated, the dealer has offered to fix, or you have chosen not to take in, or there are updates for.

You obviously have a early build with early build issues.

Why not have the issues fixed?

As far as being a fanboy, I too have posted some issues and annoyances. The main difference is this is just a car to me...

I'm curious, I also waited until about 4500 miles to have the annoyances taken car of. Back at 9500 to have them correct what they didn't previously. It's more than a car to me it's my mobile office. I spend about 8 to10 hours a day with it.

Have you taken yours in to have the issues and annoyances addressed?
If so what was the outcome?

You're right then, for me, it's just not a car. I am a car fan and LOVE to pamper my cars. I can't stand to have them stay dirty, I always keep them garaged, wash them only by hand etc. I take pride in car ownership. For me, it's more than just a mode of transportation. I could perhaps afford something more expensive, but I have always had a love affair with Jeeps so I go back and forth with my '14. One day I want to be done with it, the next day I just don't want to let it go. Maybe that's why I react so viscerally to these issues. Especially because my mom and dad came from very humble beginnings and we never really had a new car when I was growing up, I count my blessing every single day that I am able to afford to drive a new one - so maybe it just disappoints me more than most to have this happen.
