A Possible Comeback?

Man do I miss my Jeep. Sold it back in June and have somewhat been questioning it shortly after I got the '16 Sierra. Some of the comfort items and gas mileage compared to my '14 jeep is what is really making me question trading the truck in for a '17 Limited. Am I crazy? The tranny was the big reason I got rid of the jeep but there are things with the truck that are starting to get to me. For some reason I keep saying I will never buy a jeep again but I come right back to them. Not sure why, maybe it is a comfort thing. What you guys think?

The first year of any model is usually not a great example of what it can be. People ran into this in the Corvette world with the '97 C5, '01 C5Z, and early C6 Z06s to name a few. I feel the '14 JGC ended up with these issues as well which is why I bought a '15 (thanks to this forum). As the years go on the '16 & '17 are bound to be more refined as they go. If you come back to a JGC I would agree with you on the years, model is a different discussion.

Would love to hear more about you thoughts on the Sierra. That is one of the vehicles I considered leaving Jeep for.

There is a comfort in the jeep name. I left my '14 Limited after I was fed up with the gremlins. I was in a '15 Ford Explorer for all of 6 months before I sold it and bought my '15 Overland. Jeep certainly has its issues, but the vehicle size, features, and drive make it tough to get rid of. Plus IMO, the JGC is a perfect blend of off road capability while still looking professional for the working world (or daily driver)

Hey Sno,

The only mistake you made was waiting so long to dump the 14. A little over three months with the '17 and haven't seen a dealer. In that time with the '14 I had two Chritmas trees, a heater problem and a few other things.

I think it's safe to go back in the water.

Hey Sno-
I got frustrated with my 2011 Laredo X and traded for a so called luxury brand back in August of 2015. My time away from the Jeep brand lasted all of two months before I was back in a 2015 Limited.

As others have said, the size, handling etc. are perfect for my needs, and with the exception of a few minor issues I'm still happy to be back in a Jeep.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks guys, it has been hard to stay away. The wife even asked me about 2 months after I got the truck if I wish I still had my jeep. She knew something was wrong.

Protect - I had the door seal looked at (which seems to be back again) was the 1st concern which sounds like it was a known issue. Even with it there seems like times the tranny searches when accelerating. I towed the same boat with the GMC as my V6 jeep and there was no difference in gas mileage which shocked the hell out of me. Just some other comfort things (keyless start, heated/cooled seats, dimming mirrors, and the ride) are probably the big things I miss.

I'm looking around at dealerships for the best price on some Limited Lux II or 75th Annv w/ lux (I want the HID headlights) or Overland. The price has got to be right for me to make the jump. I haven't told the wife yet otherwise I will be sleeping in my car (she will be pissed) but no point in starting that fight if I can't make it happen.

Sno', a cheap one-way flight to DC and the Koons group buy might get you the best price to be had on the JGC, but what you need to do with the GMC to get out of it will also affect things.

Have a '14 Limited. All issues were fixed on warranty. Now 67.000Km.
Have not seen the dealer for a year, only changing fluids.
I find the Jeep inexpensive when it comes to maintenance, still, would never consider buying another one.
Mileage is really bad, transmission is unrefined, engine torque is almost non-existent (V6).
Comfort is the only positive.
Since I do not need an SUV I'll eventually switch to Tesla Model 3 and leave the internal combustion engine behind. I want torque.

I hear you Jim, that has been a thought. I reached out to about a dozen different dealers in a 2 hr radius on what they have in inventory. Right now I possibly have a '17 Limited with Lux II 75th Anniv that MSRP for just over 47K down to 41K before TTL.

I should hear back from a few of the places today to continue my work of getting a good price, the trade in is what I am trying to work on with these people.

Scooter - I knew you would come back. Haha

Keep in mind that Koons is now 6% off invoice plus a $600 'fee' which brings it down the less than 5%. The price you are showing is almost 13% off. That is probably better than 5% off invoice.

Nothing against Koons as they were very good to me. But I could not have come close locally. I think you may have them beat.

Hey Sno, it's about time to come back:)
I am very happy with mine 2014. I remember you were complaining about your transmission. It is a V6 issue..... I have no problem at all with V8 ZF. Did you reach to Randy at Sheboygan. He is still there. I just talked to him the other day, because I may go with 2018 later in the year. Let me know how it goes if you go with someone else.

I have not talked with Randy at all but have talked with a quite a few other dealers. The problem right now is the value of the GMC truck and what the payments would be which are not good. All communication has stopped with everyone and I will keep an eye out for maybe this fall when dealers are doing the 15-20% off of vehicles and see what the truck is worth then. I haven't given up hope yet but my wife has a different take on that, lol.

Sno,

I think you should definitely give Randy a call. When I bought my Jeep we were actually getting two jeeps (special order) for me and friend of mine. He was going to trade his GMC Yukon. We worked all the numbers and two days before we had to go to pick up the jeeps my buddy hit a deer and destroy the Yukon. Airbags went off too. For my surprise Randy took the truck as is and actually gave us more money that I was expecting to get in this condition.
You never know, you may like what he can do for you. I may be crazy, but my hands are itching for SRT (possibly later this year :D) and he is #1 in my list for sure.

I just shot him an email seeing what he could do and referenced that you and your buddy just got one and wanted to see what he can do. Is it weird that I'm kind of nervous to see if he can pull it off?

#26 ·
Well you never know. Get as many quotes as you can and compare them.
You are the one that actually told me about Randy back in 2014. Can't thank you enough for it! He gave as the best deal at the time and I would definitely give him the first shot when I am ready for something new. Good luck buddy. I know you can do it:thumbsup:

I talked with Randy today and he came back with $3000 more on my vehicle than anyone else without even seeing it. The difference between my truck and the jeep OTD is roughly $7350. I went back to them and said if you can make it a $6000 difference then we are pretty much good to go. They didn't factor in what I owe yet so we'll see what they can do. So far I'm liking the trade-in value but GOD has the price gone up on what I had before to now, roughly 4k more.

Sure for an extra 1-2K. then I have to deal with the airbags and I'd rather not. Look whos talking - the guy who traded his jeep for a car..lol j/k

If you like the deal take it and enjoy the ride. Hate to tell you, but a lot of parts are still coming from Mexico. Who knows what will be in the future and prices can only go up, you know....
I know but just waiting on numbers. What they came back with yesterday didn't make a whole lot of sense until I looked into it more this morning. I went to TrueCar and Edmunds to price it out exactly what they gave me for a price on the vehicle and they are about $3k higher (sale price of $43k and TC/EDmunds says it should be around $40-41 with the $1500 rebates). So we will see what happens.

So here is the latest proposal they sent me. Now the Vehicle payoff is actually 22,208 so not sure how they got 23,300. I told them about not liking the EP thing even though they took it off in the Rebate area (Rebates are only $1500). What you guys think?

I hear you Sno. I was one of the early 14s with shimmy issues - they bought that one back - then another 14 OVL - tranny issues big time. Sold it last March. Now, back in a 17 Overland. Sweet. Much different than the 14. You will be back ?
