Re: A Subaru Legacy put your Jeep to shame

MSWLOGO - Where do you get all your stats on Subaru and the brand's corporate fuel economy? No it is not stellar but it is not too different from the industry average for equally sized cars. And most of their competition is not AWD which impacts fuel economy.

Re: A Subaru Legacy put your Jeep to shame

I had a 2013 Outback with the 4cyl. and my worst was 20MPG and the best was 31MPG...I averaged 25-26 (I still have my mileage tracker and I just checked it). Overall it wasn't a bad vehicle very dependable and "surefooted" on wet and snowy roads. Its definitely not as good as the JGC in "Snow mode" but overall traction is better than most vehicles...just my .02 cents

Also Toyota owns 16% of Subaru and I believe they are trying to buy more....so they can use their AWD system...or at least that's the rumor.

Wife's 2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited gets 24mpg city. It wears Nokian WR G2's so it is a bear in the snow, as long as the snow is not too deep as the Legacy does not have the ground clearance of the Outback or Grand Cherokee.

That's pretty close to what I get on my Grand Cherokee !!

Typical long drives (V6 Gas).

Little wagons/sedans should do mid 30's easy. Even with AWD. Penalty on Jeep's is 2 MPG for 4WD.

Wrong. There is a 3.5 liter flat 6 engine in the legacy.

Actually, you are wrong....there has never been a 3.5 liter subaru engine. The flat 6's have been (in order) 2.7, 3.3, 3.0, and the current 3.6 liter.

Also, he said no V6 in a subaru, and that statement is 100% correct...they only ever had the flat 6. Big difference between a V6 and a horizontally opposed flat 6.

I have an 04 STI tuned up Breathes Fire it's basically a hybrid burning oil and gas. Gets like maybe 10-12Mpg.. tiny gas tank too. Yes has AWD even a electronic lockable center differential, but my WJ stock has more Ground clearance stock than any stock STI will ever have.

it does get around in the snow though dragging it's belly everywhere.

We typically get 23-26 mpg ratting around in both of our Outback 2.5i Limiteds, with the 2016 getting slightly better. The upper range of that gets hit, particularly if "I" am driving. 30-31 on the highway...with four adult-sized people aboard That's not to shabby for what isn't actually a lightweight vehicle, although it's certainly not in the JGC's weight class. Yea, it doesn't get the fuel economy that the two Prii we had did, but...it also doesn't get stuck in our driveway when it snows. We kept the 2011 when we bought the 2016 so our 17 yo daughter would have a safe and capable vehicle to drive until she's able to buy her own after college.

Same thing happened to me when I owned an Audi. Dragged it's belly everywhere. You need ground clearance.

Re: A Subaru Legacy put your Jeep to shame

If the Subaru doesn't have a BLD ( brake lock differential) like my Grand Cherokee does, I would take the Subaru.*

* I'm sure the BLD was designed for added "safety" by people much smarter than me, but they also designed a headlight that required a plastic filler piece too.
