Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

A few of us had long waits last year. Mine was 19 weeks. I still feel the lack of communication from Chrysler regarding the delays was inexcusable. But I've got to say, if you can endure the wait, driving the Jeep made the wait worth it.

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

I personally say cancel and wait for the 2012. Why take delivery only to have the new 2012 right around the corner? Besides any improvements/updates/changes to the new model, you also have to remember that you originally ordered this vehicle way back in 2010 with anticipation of having it say within 3 months. Now a lot more time has passed and the updated 12's will be knocking on the door and your basically going to have a new old car. I dunno, I personally say either wait for yours or cancel and get a 2012. It's easy for me to say though since I dont desperately need a new car.

Yeah July shutdown is only 3 1/2 months away, either wait for '12 or once they get through the backlog pick up a dealer holdover with incentives after the '12 hit the dealer.

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

If Chryco were to take all the "like to have" updates that this board alone wants to see in 2012, this rig will easily price at over $55k.

For instance, we seem to have the following requests for "upgrades" thus far, among others:

1) matching spare wheel and rubber
2) 6-8 speed tranny
3) turbo diesel
4) headrest video monitors
5) real AT tires for ORG option
6) burled wood shifter knob
7) headlamp washers
8) rear ventilated anti swamp butt seats
9) LED lights
10) two-week turnaround for custom-built orders
11) power folding mirrors
12) front ELSD/solid axle
13) Disable ESC option
14) Instrument cluster - speedo blocked by wheel, xmas tree indicator lights
15) Slush mats standard

ETC, etc, etc

Note the above are largely upgrades, as opposed to fixes such as shudder, ETC lag, HVAC, body colored bits vs. plastic chrome, roof racks or other such items.

Just sayin.

+1 to lweisenb's idea above to steal a 2011 at great pricing when the 2012's come out.

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

there will be NO major upgrades on the 2012........hardly anything

the reason for the delays on the overland---

---previous gen's the Overland was only resposnsible for 3% of grand cherokee sales. The 2011 is OBVIOUSLY much higher than that. maybe Milous will have some numbers soon. But they are overwhelmed by Overland orders...and so are the vendors that supply the Overland only options. I would guess the leather, sunroof, suspension vendors are all running full capacity. Do you guys think this is some for of conspiracy against Jeep special order Overlands? They want to build them and get them to you as fast as possible. They make no money till your vehicle is delivered and financed/paid for.

AND Stop complaining about Jeep and how they have wrong'd you...if don't like Jeep, GTFO! Hard to have a quality product on a first year run and have EVERYTHING go smoothly

Sorry I have had that bottled up for a while

Proceed with your delay discussions
At least for me this will be my first jeep product so cant say I hate Jeep and I will not GTFO yet. This is definitely not the first time i have ordered a new vehicle though. After test driving a 2011 JGC, and loving it, I ordered a HEMI 4x4 Overland March 2nd, and then I found this blog. I was doing a little research because I had an issue with Bluetooth while my iPhone was connected to it's cable. The dealer assured me that I was an isolated problem, and low and behold it turns out to be an ongoing problem with the 730N RER media center. I later found out, through this blog not Jeep, that there is an RHR now being installed that takes care of this issue and adds Bluetooth audio streaming, yeah! Now i'm reading of shudder problems??

My dealer told me 30-45 days for my delivery, which seams reasonable, but now I'm reading this post. Maybe you can shed some light. Are Summit orders taking longer that Overland orders or is it the same Assy line? Summit and Overland being Jeep's high end vehicles, I can understand why people are getting frustrated. There is no doubt Jeep has built a winner here but I think that they have overlooked the customer service aspect of buying one of their top of the line vehicles. My current vehicle, brand X (not top of the line), which is now 10 years old was delivered as advertised, no excuses. I received weekly updates and it was delivered to the day, and it came on a ship! I will hang in there and see what happens, but i will not wait forever. Customer service is paramount to me so I can see the frustration of our fellow bloggers.

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

Thanks Scott! That is the type of info we need to hear. I appreciate it. I wish Jeep and or the dealers would communicate this when we place our orders (rather than "we have your new baby within 6-8 weeks tops").

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

I wouldnt pass over a WK2 on a lot because of the 430n, its just not that much of a step down from the new unit.

Well said, Scottina! Another way to put it is that ChryCo is a victim of its own success. Maybe they came out of the gate too hot, but when sales of your flagship trim level (including Summits in with this comment) pack so much value and appeal that they cause a pileup in the assembly line, that's not all bad news. If you accept that everyday business is full of challenges, then the success underlying this temporary situation is a very good base to build on.

Re: Abandoned my Summit order today

I totally agree with all your comments. The part I would debate however is you read about all the millions of dollars of upgrades to this factory, why does the tracking suck? Even if it was constantly changing the date of delivery at least you have an idea of progress. This isnt the first model year of a vehicle, cars have been built for decades. Why all the sudden is this such a hard issue to solve? I am not leaving my order, just would like to know when to expect it. I can care less if you told me 3 months, at least I know. I will not by any means debate this product one bit, communication is another story!

maybe the GTFO was a little stong haha...I really hope Jeep can get the orders out soon so they can make all of these potential jeep-sters happy and get more Summits/Overlands on the road! And I think that is a great idea to go to the dealers later this year and get a screaming deal on an 2011!!! I am amazed at how many are on the showroom floors...
