Even if you'll never drive in the snow, you'll love the AWD in the rain: not all of the power going to 1 wheel.
Although - I don't know how Jeep's AWD compares to the Lexus RX330 AWD with VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), which monitors and controls all 4 wheels. If it's similiar/comparible it's worth it (someone else can chime in). Never experienced any problems driving on rainy mountain roads in California (manytimes) and never worried if it started to snow.
If the option is available, I'll always take an AWD over a 2-wheel drive (actually 1-wheel drive, since you don't have limited slip).
