ACC radar frequency

Anyone know what radar band the ACC radar uses or would like to take a guess? I am planning on adding a radar transparent cover to my radar for off road protection.

That will be interesting because being transparent should have nothing to do with it. The system operates in the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is not visible to the human eye. Take a look here for a quick reference. Nobody in my family at least, can see microwaves, cell phone waves and radio waves or the Jeep ACC radar waves for the matter...

My guess is that it will be senses as an obstruction (just like excessive dust, mud, snow, etc) and the system will give you an error. But protection is good when you are going off road. The slightest miss-alignment (such as when hitting a snow bank) will cause issues, including but not limited to false alerts, erratic braking or not working altogether. I've been there, done that. So...any protection is good off-road. But on road, with that cover on, you will likely not have reliable ACC operation.

Re: ACC radar frequency

The term "transparent" is frequently used in context outside that pertaining to the visible spectrum. No one suggested that you could see the shit.

Re: ACC radar frequency

You'll probably need to be careful about the thickness (probably want an odd 1/4 wave to minimize reflections, if I remember correctly) and possibly the shape (to avoid deforming the beam).

optical and 77GHz transparency may be related, but they don't have to be.

Re: ACC radar frequency

Teflon appears to be the material to use. 77ghz has wavelength of about 4mm, 5mm thick sheet will be about 1 and 1/4 wavelength. Hopefully that isnt too thick...

Re: ACC radar frequency

just pop it out when you fear you are going to smash it offroad, takes all of two minutes its held in by quick connects for that very reason.

Re: ACC radar frequency

Wow - didn't realise you could pop it off. I've had to have it reset a couple times due to being dislodged.

Re: ACC radar frequency

they are already quick release, half a twist and the pins pop out as a complete assembly, this doesnt then effect re aligning when you re install it.

Re: ACC radar frequency

I'd rather be able to leave it fitted.
