access to inside of rear hatch?

Hello,

I just purchased a 14 JGC and when I raise and lower the back hatch, its obvious I have a nut or bolt or something rolling around in there on the lower passenger side. There looks to be a access panel right in the center, can anyone tell me if it just pops off? I tried and the corner will come up but I dont want to force it without knowing for sure you know.

Thanks,

That's what dealers are for.

Yes I know but if its a matter of popping that panel off and pulling it out, it sounds like a 5 minute job vs going to dealer and sitting around for an hour waiting on them to do it you know

Everything back there seems to be working fine so it will be interesting to see what it is.

Re: access to inside of rear hatch?

Since it is under warranty, go to the dealer. You want this in your "permanent record". Take a book.

2014GC is on a distinguished road
Re: access to inside of rear hatch?

The sound you are hearing is one of the clips that hold on the panel. Three different GC I test drove had one rolling around. The panel comes off easily but if you have never worked with trim it might be better if you have the dealer look at it.

I'm with you. Sitting in a dealer's waiting room is pure agony.

The rear trim panel pops out if you gently pry it outward, starting at a lower corner and working your way around. A trim removal tool is the best way to do this, but you could also use something like a putty knife to accomplish the task.

I've done this a couple of times to replace the rear bulbs that are located in the liftgate. It's not difficult.
