Adaptive cruise control... is there an indicator that notifies driver when car slows?

So I've got adaptive cruise control on my new 2015 Summit. I LOVE the feature but have found that I get annoyed when the car begins to automatically slow due to a slower car in front of it and I don't notice it. Sure, the MPH changes, but I'm curious... is there some sort of a setting somewhere that can be adjusted to give some sort of a "chime" or "light" to let me know that the car is slowing itself down? If I'm constantly having to monitor the speed with ACC enabled it kind of defeats the purpose (on some level). This comes into play on the freeway. Sometimes you're in a lane and don't realize that the Jeep is going slower than intended and that it's time to change lanes to pass!

Just the speedometer... ;) There's no warning available that I'm aware of.

You've gotta do something about those body sensors that you have 'cause I can tell if I am slowing down or picking up speed even with the eyes closed (i.e. not watching the speedometer).

Also, use your turn signals when it is time to change lanes ! Don't be like the rest of them. :slapfight: Your Jeep might even drop a gear to help you pass when you are on cruise control and engage your turn signal !

It is true. The only true indicator is the speedometer. There are no warning lights, whistles, shakes, vibrations or written notifications...that the car is slowing down or it is about to accelerate while on ACC

Yeah there's a display on the DIC that takes the whole screen to show your car, the bars of your distance and then a car will appear if it's following one.
It is a gimmick. A useless one. The little cruise control indicator with 4 bars and the car detected in the lower right hand corner would be enough. The screen that magnifies that information and put it in the central panel (LCD) is useless. It only tells the chosen following distance and nothing else; it doesn't tell me if I have anyone behind or to my sides (that's what would be useful, a warning from the blind spot monitoring ion the dashboard, not just in the mirrors), it doesn't provide any useful info.

Adaptive cruise control... is there an indicator that notifies driver when ca...

^^^Its not useless to OP, it does exactly what he's wanting. Lol that's what he's asking about.. A whole screen you can dedicate to show if you're following a vehicle or not. Fwiw, it's no different than any other car I've had. They all just show a car if you're following someone. Nothing else.

It does not do exactly what he's wanting. He wants an indicator to tell him that he is slowing down (like your inner ear should be telling you!). That screen you are referring to shows the exact same thing as the small indicator in the lower right (how many distance bars, and if it sees a car). Just because it "sees" a car in front doesn't mean it is slowing down. I have to agree with F1anatic...that screen us a redundant waste of a page to have scroll through to go between trip and tire pressure.

sad, drivers need to be more engaged not less. ACC is just a tool to make up for lazy drivers, it really shouldn't be necessary

ACC fans flame away ... piloting a vehicle in public is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. It should be rare that the system slows you down, you should be doing that automatically as part of driving

I'm sorry, but I sure am not a "lazy driver", but I do spend a LOT of time on the highway and ACC helps reduce fatigue. It's just cruise control with the ability to maintain separation without driver intervention. For folks who prefer to manually control speed over long distances, that option is certainly available!

Jeez!

How can you not be "in tune" with your vehicle when driving:confused:?
Sorry guys, driving is a serious task that requires attention and focus. If you can't feel your vehicle slowing down or objects becoming nearer, perhaps you should stop texting and get your eyes back on the instruments/road:eek:!!!

If you ever get rear ended you'll be wishing the other guy had a system that intervenes. If everyone was as perfect as you when behind the wheel we wouldn't need seat belts or air bags.

Unfortunately most of us have human failings.

I have a question too regarding ACC. When ACC slows the Jeep do the brake lights come on? I have not anyone behind me watching to see. Curious if others know.

And I have to agree with Jim in PA's comment, ACC reduces the fatigue of highway travel. I spend a lot of time on the road and have noticed a significant difference using ACC.

This is true, but without using cruise control at all, every car slows when you let off the gas...without brake lights coming on. Even though the car is speeding up and slowing down on its own with ACC, everything still behaves exactly the same as if you were controlling the pedals.

Right, I'm agreeing with you. The brake lights should not come on just because the vehicle is slowing down on the highway...they should only come on if the vehicle is actually braking. I coast all the time to slow down on the highway and I very rarely even use the brake pedal at all. And my car is a manual transmission, so it tends to really drop speed upon coasting, so maybe that's just why I'm sort of conditioned to drive like that on the highway.

In traffic, the ACC does use the brakes to slow down and thusly the brake lights go on.

I have a Tuson Brake controller for our trailer and the screen of the Tuson Command module shows percentage of brake pressure being used by the Jeep.

When ACC applies the brakes, you can hear the faint "click" under the dash as the brake-light circuit lights them up. I do wish there was an indication on the dashboard, though.

When I want to override the ACC turn-signal acceleration and/or brake-jamming when someone gets in between the target vehicle, I have found using the "Cancel" button a good workaround. As soon as conditions are right, I hit "Resume". Beats turning ACC off and having to re-establish the parameters.

I personally find ACC very useful in stop and go rush hour traffic, in addition to the usual highway use. I never liked and never used cruise control, but love and use ACC.

That's a good technique that works very well. It beats ACC constantly braking -- I find excessive brake lights on the highway to be annoying. ACC is fantastic.

I have noticed recently this problem when I use ACC in traffic. I am stopped, hit the ACC button and speed sets to 20 MPH. Traffic starts moving and when the car in front of me stops again, mine starts to slow but when it is just about to stop, I get a message "ACC is about to disengage, apply brakes". What could be the problem? I have tried on sunny days, cloudy days.
