Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I went with the Adaptive Cruise Control in my WK2 Jeep GC for the sole reason that it provides the rear 90 Degree Warning when backing out of parking slots at the Bank and Supermarket. However, on long trips I find the Forward Collision Avoidance feature to be a real benefit. The Blind Spot Warning feature is not as important if you have your side view mirrors set properly. Having said that, I have gotten audible warning when I set my turn signal to change lanes without first having checked the side mirrors.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I thought the Adaptive Cruise Control would be a novelty, but it's worth every penny. The Forward Collision Avoidance has literally been a life saver a few times already. On a daily basis, I set the ACC on my way to work--about 20 minutes of freeway driving--and it greatly improves my gas milage with my HEMI. I get an average of 22.5 mpg as opposed to 13-15 mpg without it. I usually have my ACC set between 68 and 70 MPH.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

For the small amount that Jeep charges for the FCW/ACC package, it's a steal compared to what many of the Euro manufacturers charge for it.

When I was looking at the GC, I wouldn't even consider not getting the option on my Overland. Plus the whole package works great.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I have it on my '12 Overland and I LOVE it. Very useful if you are cruising and you don't have a fast enough reaction to break, because a car decides to zoom over in your lane, or if you don't want to keep accelerating and brake while traveling. It's useful for little and major things. The blind spot detection is very useful too, since the Jeep is kinda high up and you can have small cars that are a little hard to see at times in your blind spot, so a simple mirror check allows you to see the mirror and blind spot at the same time, adding more safety.

You only hear of people regretting not getting it. I cant say I have heard of someone complaining that their car has blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise. Like I said above, its such a small amount in the grand scheme of things considering the Overland is a 40+ thousand dollar Jeep. Not only that, but fully optioned Jeeps will be more sought after. For me personally, if I decide to buy a used WK2 adaptive cruise package is a 100% must. I will not even consider one without it. Just another thing to think about I guess.

James
Why not get it? Because when the whole "Oh my car can slow it self down" factor wears off, you will be stuck with a system that you have over paid for and sooner or later (if you keep the truck) have to fix in order to have a cruise control. You will always hear people regretting not getting it..... thats because its a new tech gizmo that they haven't had a chance of getting bored with. I keep telling you people, $40,000+ for a car/truck isn't nothing, most midsize cars/suvs go up to and pass 40K, the Jeep is nothing special.

Only if the cruise control can stop the car and pick up the speed is when I can see it as a plus to have.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

You can turn ACC off...it is not needed for regular CC operation.

I haven't tried to see if having ACC on will bring the Jeep to a complete stop, but I know it will slow it way down and I'd imagine it may stop and re-start also once the person in front of you speeds back up. I may have to try that one day and see what happens.

It does pick up the speed once the distance opens up again. BTW, this feature has been on Mercs and BMWs for a while now and nobody is regretting it. Just you for not being able to have one in the garage, stop hating...
