Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

We just placed our order for an Overland, which will be my wifes car. We didn't order the package at first but the following day, after reading more about the package, I had a major "what am I thinking" moment and changed my mind. Fortunately the dealer was able to add it.

I began to think of the "what if's". The JCG will be driven by my wife 90% of the time and she will often have at least one if not both of our kids in the vehicle. It could potentially help my wife to avoid a major accident, saving their lives. Heck, even if it only helps to avoid a minor fender bender, the cost of the insurance deductible and increased premium would be greater than the cost of the option.

The vehicle may also ultimately be give to my daughter in 3 to 4 yrs. So for me, I want to give my wife and/or daughter every possible tool to help avoid an accident. Couldn't live with my self if a preventable accident occurred trying to save $1295.

I did not want it. Ended up findiing an Overland in the color and inerior I wanted and made a good deal on one with it. All I can say is that it is great. I drive 17 miles on highway each way to work and I set it and go. I have also noticed it helps with mileage. If you are debating whehter or not to get it I would vote get it for sure!!

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I got to try it out on my friend's 2011 Overland and I have to say I was impressed that it worked so well. My wife really liked it so it's a no-brainer. Every bit of extra safety is worth paying for and it's really nice to have well optioned out vehicle.

I was previously planning on NOT getting it....driving is believing.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

The adaptvie cruise package is exactly the reason why i had to order my jeep.... I could have bought a 2011 back in the spring that was my exact color combo with everything i wanted (except it had the 18"wheels, but i didn't care, i like them also) minus the adaptive cruise package. i was very close to say ahhh the heck with lets just buy it because i didn't want to wait.

i have to say i am soooo glad i decided to order a 2012 with the adaptive cruise package! I haven't used the cruise yet, but all of the other features have been awesome!
I would definitely say it is worth the extra $$

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

Blind spot detection and collision warning are definitely worth it especially if you drive in heavy city traffic... I have mine set on beep when use turn signal. So, the yellow triangle lights up but I 99% use my turn signal when changing lanes (I know...I should be like the vast majority in Florida and not use it but I am courteous! LOL) so it is nice that that the beep reminds me in heavy traffic so I can keep my eyes in front.... Big feature. I wouldn't get another SUV without it!

The ACC isn't as big of a deal for me since I don't use cruise control very much. However, it comes with the package and is useful.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

The ACC is awesome. I like a lot of distance between cars so I got mine on 3 settings, but made the ride from Seattle to Portland much more enjoyable. Someone cuts in front, it brakes and then if you decided to switch lanes to the faster lane, it speeds up. Also as others have mentioned it comes with the blindspot detection which is great having a safety net when you make lane changes. Made me use my blinkers more to assure I had a room to change lanes. A fully loaded Overland is one helluva ride. Also the V6 is plenty power especially if you don't tow much.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

I purchased my 2011 Overland just about a year ago. I was on the fence with the option and decided to go with it. I couldn't be happier that I did. If your driving patterns include highway driving at all, I would highly recommend including the Adaptive Cruise Package.

I didnt want it, and even when it came with my Overland Summit I didnt like it, Then I used more and I can get real good gas mileage with it set. Big difference in gas mileage.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

The only reason I ended up with the adaptive cruis package is because it was included on the Overland Summit...but now I'm really glad I have it. The package certainly doesn't replace the driver's own judgment...nor was it ever intended for that purpose. Every driver gets distracted at some point and the adaptive cruise package is a great feature to mitigate some of that distraction.

I'm sure it help me out last week. The vehicle in front of my suddenly slowed because he/she missed an exit. The system immediately began braking the Grand Cherokee. The system gave me more time to react because it recognized that the vehicle in front was slowing down before I did. Now if it could just slow the vehicle behind you...LOL!

But...there have been a couple of occasions where I was travelling slower than I normally would have been because the Jeep has adjusted to the slower speed of the vehicles in front of my. A simple lane change solves that problem :-) There have also been times when the "Brake!" warning sounded when I really don't think it should have. Maybe I have it set to be more sensitive than it should be for city driving.

Re: Adaptive Cruise package - get it or skip it?

Does anyone know if the ACC illuminates the brake lights when it activates the brakes to slow the vehicle down?

It is awesome and would not have another luxury SUV without it.
