Adaptive headlights

Just ordered my 2016 Overland Ecodiesel. When I ordered my 2014, only the Summit trim level had the adaptive headlights (swivel up to 15 degrees when turning). On the Jeep website - the in the gallery for 2016 Grand Cherokee (image 27 of 33), it shows the Overland with this feature. However, I read on another site that a person who bought a 2016 Summit did not have this feature.
Anyone know if this feature still exists, and if so is it on the Overland?

Re: Adaptive headlights

Interesting. You would think regardless the 2016 Summit has it. I can't imagine them just dropping th feature. As far as if lower models got it I don't recall hearing that. I had it on my 2014 Summit, and now I'm in a 2015 HA and don't miss it.

Re: Adaptive headlights

I have them on my 15 Limited, they came with the Lux II package.

You're not missing anything.

When you start the car, they move up and down once as they "boot up" and it looks cool at night since the headlights are on. Other than that, I have been unable to tell that they are actually working. No matter what speed, what incline, what steering wheel angle, what ambient light level, I can never tell that they do anything. I have pointed the truck at a fence on a dark street and rotated the wheel back and forth and still cant see anything.

Ehh I don't think you do. The adaptive headlights only came on the Summit and SRT models. I believe you are referring to the auto leveling feature that all WK2s have with the HID headlights. The adaptive headlights also turn with steering wheel input. If the Overland does not get that feature I'm pretty sure a Limited certainly wouldn't.
The adaptive headlights you can easily tell are working because the headlights actually turn with the vehicle. The auto leveling feature is designed so that you don't really see it working. It's one of those things that keeps the headlight beam level regardless of vehicle load. So you won't necessarily see it working.

Re: Adaptive headlights

The Adaptive headlights are currently only on the Summit and SRT lines.

The Overlands, High Altitudes, and Limiteds with the Lux II package get the Auto Leveling LED Headlights that look almost exactly like the adaptive ones. The LED Headlights swivel up & down but not side to side (which is what the adaptive ones do).

Re: Adaptive headlights

You can actually see the auto leveling working...when you're driving down a dark street by yourself, jam on the brakes. This will cause the front to dive and you can see the lights bump up in steps and then bump back down as the front end comes back up from the nose dive.

As for the adaptive trick, I have yet to notice it on my 16 Summit. Some vehicles will move the lights just by turning the steering wheel while you're sitting still, but it doesn't appear the Jeep does. I will investigate more in the future.

One thing I did try out last night was the auto high beam control. WOW, does that ever work great! Cars coming the other way, taillights in front, it always got it right at just about the exact time I would've switched it myself. Even through curves it never blinded another driver. Very impressed with that system.

Re: Adaptive headlights

To notice the adaptive on the summit it needs to be fairly dark and it happens fairly quick so have to be really looking for it. You will see the light start to curve as you take a corner but it straightens out fast to is hard to notice unless you pay attention. I find it is a nice option to have where the roads are winding as with stock lights you see more ditch but with adaptive you see more road.

Re: Adaptive headlights

The adaptive headlights are very noticeable, especially in neighborhoods or whatever where you may multiple 90 degree turns. Only one headlight turns at a time. If you are turning right, the right headlights turns into the turn. Left turn, left headlights goes into the turn. They do not move when stopped.
Adaptive headlights can be turned on and off in the uconnect settings.

Re: Adaptive headlights

When I'm driving through my community and subdivision - especially at lower speeds and tighter turns - the adaptive lights are quite noticeable.

Very interesting is the fact that in theses scenarios, the two headlights DON'T turn to the same degree. when I'm turning right, the right headlight turns while the left one almost stays straight.

Re: Adaptive headlights

I am still confused. I know they were available on the 14 & 15 Summits. No one has confirmed them in the 16's with a Summit, other than a person on another forum saying his Summit does not have them. But like I said in my original post, the picture on the Jeep website says the 16 Overland has them. My guess is it is a misprint. Wondering if Jeep did away from them all together. Anyone with a 16 Summit or Overland able to confirm?

Re: Adaptive headlights

Well, the MY16 brochure says that the Summit comes with 'cornering technology' headlights. This is only mentioned once in the entire brochure - on the Summit features.

So I would assume this 'cornering technology' is indeed 'adaptive headlights'.
