Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

I have the trail rated badge on my Laredo but without limited slip in at least the rear diff it is just a joke. Open diffs in the front and rear will get you in trouble in the most unlikely of places. I too thought that all Jeep 4x4's had limited slips when I bought mine but was soon educated when I joined this site. Had the same problem when I bought my chevy Z71, went off roading on a strip job soon after I bought it and got stuck and that is when I found out I had an open diff in the back. Later found out that since I ordered it with the 4.10 gear ratio that the Limited Slip was not an option, only if you had the 3.73 ratio. Sucked to find that out but I do alot of towing and now I keep a good chain in the bed when I go muddin' and a winch on the front.

I think that's crap that limited slip only comes with offroad adventure package II. That's a main stay for offroading, even the more mundane type most people with wk2's will be doing.

I couldn't imagine the cost to replace the front and rear diff to get this. Seriously it's a jeep!

Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

Probably 99% of the people who own these will never do any serious off roading that requires a locker but to me if you're going to say something is "trail ready" then that is exactly what it should be. One thing that many might run into though is getting stuck in a ditch on one side and the other side the tires are barely touching pavement. With open diffs you are not going to go anywhere because the wheels with least traction are just going to spin.

Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

I would personally never going off-roading with any factory built JGC. And I agree that the vast majority of people will do little to no off-roading with their new WK2s. But if I lived somewhere out west I would expect my JGC to be able to handle the basics. Considering mine has 20in rims atm the closest to off-roading its going is down a dirt street. Chrysler is clearly trying to compete with the higher end luxury SUVs as a great cost effective/full loaded alternative. I personally would never buy a different SUV unless I could afford a loaded Range Rover or Cayenne Turbo.

+1

I don't care if someone has the badge or not. If they like the look of the badge for aesthetic reasons, have at it. My current Xterra has a dozen or so "off road" stickers on the back window, where all my previous vehicles were completely debadged.

But, adding some flimsy factory skids and crappy all season tires on 18" does not automatically turn a vehicle into a trail rig.

IMO.

I'll take this opportunity to whore my stickers LOL

Well I guess the good news is that you'd only have to do the rear diff since a front LSD isn't currently an option on the WK2s

I think that the Quada-Trac II system will use the brake on that spinning wheel to prevent that. In the old days, you didn't have computer-controlled access to the brakes, that's why lockers or limited-slip was needed.

So Quada-Trac II is the new Limited Slip Diff in the case of jeeps and using the brakes for a single wheel? I haven't seen that in the literature at all.

Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

I did read where brake pressure is applied to the loose wheel somewhere but I still have my doubts if it is going to apply power to the wheel with traction. I am also not a big fan of auto lockers, especially on the rear diff when you hit ice covered roads. My tacoma that I traded in had an electronic locker in the rear and with that setup you get the best of both worlds. Get stuck bad enough you just put it in 4low and push the button and the rear diff locks. I knew when I got the Jeep that it wasn't the offroad vehicle my tacoma was but still they should atleast put some kind of locker in the rear when selling a 4wd package.

Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

Arguing about whether or not somebody should put a sticker on their Jeep. This is some funny stuff.

I like what Dunecrawler did. Custom made badge. http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=19769

Re: Add "Trail Rated" Badge to GC Limited?

Jeep assumes that the standard "Electronic Stability Control" which brakes spinning wheels, is an entry level substitute for LSD. Also "Trail Rated" includes, in addition to items mentionned previously, some type of water proofing for the engine wiring and better door gaskets.

As always the dealer lies again.

I asked what comes with ORA I and ORA II and he just said skid plates, badge, hooks for I and LSD and QL for II. They never order ORA from the factory and just add the parts to it after the fact. Would have been nice for them to tell me about the extra protection from the factory and I would have stuck with getting it straight from the factory instead of them adding it on after the fact.
