Adding an oem part to the VIN#

So, I just got off the phone with the GM of my jeep dealership and he has never heard of adding an aftermarket (OEM) part to a vin or window sticker. Is there something else that I should be telling him or some place else that it can be added to?

Thanks.

Adding the mopar OEM fully electronic climate control package to my E-group

Re: Adding an oem part to the VIN#

You cannot have that added, has to be a Mopar Accessory (in Mopar catalog).

My apologies.. What I meant to say was that I planned on adding this

Dual Zone Climate Control (HAF)

Which is a mopar factory part (the unit without heated or cooled seats)

Just curious - why would you want to do that?

Well, if you mean why would I add it, its bc I can't stand the look of the stock knobs and the swap for the fully electric is easy as pie. Now, if I you wanna know why I want to add it to the vehicle history through the dealership, its bc I want it to be covered by the original warranty. Which is what a few guys on here have done.

Looks like it's still not an accessory.

Re: Adding an oem part to the VIN#

Some things can be added to Chrysler's internal data base. It is to help service departments when they need to look up parts.

Nothing gets changed regarding the VIN. VINs don't reveal a list of options anyway. They will identify make, model, engine, sometimes trim level etc. It will not identify things like a/c or heated seats.

All information that the VIN reveals is encoded the day the VIN is issued.

Sometimes a state will issue a new vin in the case of a recovered theft that had the vin removed. That vin will not look like the 17 digit, international VIN that has been in use since 1981.

Re: Adding an oem part to the VIN#

So, when added to the sales list, is it now covered under warranty? In other words what is the sales list and how does it benefit me to have it added?

Re: Adding an oem part to the VIN#

Good questions. Some manufacturers will provide a warranty, but only if the option was added by the dealer before delivery. I would read the Jeep warranty, including the small print, to know for sure if you would be covered.

That would be the only benefit to you that I can think of.
