Adding NAV MYGIG

Has anyone tried to put in a MYGIG NAV from say Ebay on a 2011? Mine came with the 430 (No Nav) I gave the dealer parts guy a list of numbers and he came back and said none of the them would work. I don't know if this is because he wants me to buy it from him or if he just doesn't have the info to really know?

Bottom line is that I know I would need a jumper cable for the U connect and a GPS antenna, but the real question is would any of therse work if not out of a 2011 model?

Anyone tried this yet? I want to think it will work but it may be limited to late model MYGIGS?

From what I have heard the 2011 uses a different BUS speed as well as slightly different shape/size than the older models that are available on ebay.

I had the 430 also but bought the 430N. No need for gps antenna, it is either already integrated in the 430N or there is a GPS antenna already connected via the wiring harnesses. I have the 730N RER (07) in my JK and the mounting for that unit is on the left/right sides of the radio whereas the mounting for the 430/430N is on the top and bottom unless the mounting for the newere 730N are mounted differently. Any of the gps made for the JK, which has the high speed CAN bus should be compatible with the W2' bus but again, the mounting might be an issue.

Funny you bring up this thread. I actually just finished adding a NAV unit about 2 hours ago. I have a 2011 Laredo X that came with the 430 - no NAV (RBZ).

I bought the following 430N (RHB) on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140468050019&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

I got the unit and was disappointed that the bracket was totally different (screws were on the side instead of top and bottom). However, I hooked it up to see if it would work and it worked perfectly. So I then performed about 30 minutes of frightening open heart surgery, dismantling my existing 430 unit and the 430N unit.

I pretty much swapped out the entire front section of the radios so that my 430 screen that is tied to the correct bracket is now connected to the 430N unit.

Once that was done I installed the franken-unit back in the Jeep and all works like a champ! As long as you get a 2011 MyGig with the High Speed Bus you'll be OK.... hopefully the one you get has the correct bracket so you dont have to do what I did.

If you look carefully, you can see the RBZ on the bottom right hand corner of the radio:

Also, its easy as hell to take off the front dash piece that surrounds the radio. Others on the forum were saying to use a putty knife or something to carefully get in between the the cracks to pry it out... you dont have to do that. The little storage compartment under the AC controls, open the door so you have access, then put your hands above the door while it is opened and you can just pull out on the entire dash piece and it'll pop out. Took me 30 seconds to get it off.

Thanks for the info! Doesn't sound too bad. I think most are already pre-wired, it's cheaper for them to use a wiring harness then have sperate ones to acomidate every possibility. Now the big question is, how much did you pay for it??? (If you don't mind me asking)

Oh yeah. I was told the 2011's have a low speed bus?????

the only other one I see listed is overb $1700. They need it a lot more then I do at that price. Hopefully in the next year there will be more availalble and the price will go down. For $1700 I'll keep my portable Garmin 1690 on the dash.

do you mean that the 430N and 430 both have a jack for the GPS antenna in the back? If that's the case then I'm guessing it all comes down to software for the 2 models. One with Nav Garmin software and one without. Unless the 430 has no GPS antenna connection point?

My 430 and 430N have the exact same connections on the back. So its a simple unplug from one and re-plug the same harness connectors in the other. Nothing extra needed. Its not just software though, while I was dismantling the 430N to take the screen off, I could see the GPS hardware in the unit. The 430 doesn't have that in it.
