Advanced tech package

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum. I am ordering a 15 overland and wondering what people think of the advance technology package with its safety features. Has anyone had these kick in in near misses? Anyone's insurance less with this package added?

Id recommend getting it. I have had the collision avoidance warn me sevetal times, it beeps and shutters the brakes to warn. Once i had it get on the brakes hard when i almost ran into a car infront of me. It adds additional braking if it thinks you are not braking enough for a panic stop situation.

Had an incident last year where some dork passed me then cut in front of me and slammed on the brakes to turn into a parking lot on the right side of the road. The collision avoidance kicked in and had the vehicle almost to a stop by the time I had hit the brakes.

Re: Advanced tech package

I had a near miss about 2 weeks ago, at the time of our great snow. I was following 3 other cars at speeds of about 35 mph, with my own distance to the car in front of about 10 meters. The cars in front all 3 suddenly stopped, but the Jeep definitely kicked in the brakes long before (2-3 meters) before I reacted - and I was paying attention to the road actively looking in front of me for an upcoming right turn. The car's reaction scared me and my wife but definitely drew praises.

The logic behind the Forward Collision Warning is somewhat fuzzy. In a properly working system, one can trigger-test it by driving behind a car that is making a turn and NOT hitting the brakes. Or by coasting behind a car that is coming to the stop an being late on brakes. There also has to be a certain speed difference. In such circumstances the car will sound the BRAKE alert a couple of times - 3-5 times THEN brake. Well this last time, it definitely engaged brakes and the alert at the same time. There's no doubt I stopped in a shorter distance than what I would have achieved on my own.

The other thing that the Tech Package adds is the Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Path Detection. Both equally valuable or maybe even more so than the FCW. The Cross Path Detection helps detect pedestrians or cars in parking lots that walk/drive into your reversing pathway. The BSM helps too because there are some blind angles on this car and sometimes you get a Corolla or SMART hiding in there.

Re: Advanced tech package

There's no lane departure warning, although that can be annoying in cars that have it. Blind spot warning works well. I have come to trust it. The backup cross traffic warning is a nice feature when you're parked next to a big SUV and can't see through it in a lot.

The collision avoidance has activated twice in heavy traffic, but I was already on the brakes both times. So far I can't say it's helped me to stop. It does divert your attention because you get a big blinking message saying "BRAKE." I'd rather have my eyes on the traffic.

Adaptive cruise control is a really great feature. We recently drove from VA to FL and I used it a lot. If someone cuts in front of you, it will slow down quickly which can be a problem to people behind you. It tends to overshoot the slow down and you can end up going very slow in the fast lane. I just override it by pressing the accelerator to keep my speed up. I wanted the tech package and I'm glad i got it.

The one thing I don't/didn't like about it on my old Acura MDX and at first on my 15' JGC Summit, is if you drive aggressively like me, sometimes it will "false trigger" (for lack of a better term) when you speed up to pass someone and you get close to thier bumper. I recently finished reading the manual though, and found out you can set the distance for it to trigger to either far or near. It comes set to a default of far. I changed the setting to near a couple days ago but haven't tested it yet. I didn't have has much of a problem with the JGC as the Acura even when I had it set to far so I think this near setting will be just fine. All that being said, I won't ever buy another car without a collision mitigation system even with the occasional false trigger.

Once you've had it you will never have another vehicle without it... It has saved me from in attentiveness many times, and couldn't imagine taking long trips without it.....

Re: Advanced tech package

I do not have any direct experience with these safety features. However, based on the positive feedback here and elsewhere, I highly recommend that you order these features. Even if you are a terrific driver, always pay attention, etc. Having technology give you a hand is always good.

It would be nice if your insurance company gives you a bit of a discount for having these features, but I wouldn't use this as a criteria for selection.

I very much want these features on any vehicle that my family and I will be in. I want people in other cars around me to have these features as well. I may turn in my 2012 Limited early on its current lease, and get a new one with these features.

Get it! You won't be sorry if you do. Like others have said...blind spot warning is great and I love the side warning when backing out of a parking space.

I miss it when I drive my wife's Ford Edge.

Anyone gotten any insurance discounts from having it yet?
Or are the insurance companies kind of in wait and see mode to figure out if it can cut their losses?

Re: Advanced tech package

My '14 has it and my insurance is noticeably less than my 2007 WK was. It isn't itemized on my policy. I also haven't had a WK2 without it on my policy so I don't know definitively how much less it is. It is cheaper to insure than my brother's '14 VW Passat that doesn't have any of these features.
