Advanced Technology Package?

Hey guys,

So if you have posted, you know I had trouble with my Overland: too many to list. Thankfully, someone kind enough at Jeep Operations found my case and is now willing to go through Impartial Services to replace my Overland with a new one.

Because of all the problems we are having, they offered very generously to work with us on the differences on MSRP. Thus, my wife and I are definitely going with the ORII package as the 20s don't provide any good tires for A/T.

Second, we are considering the advanced tech package, mostly for the blind spot as my wife has some difficulty when she drives.

What have you guys heard about the reliability of new build Overlands with that package? I have reviewed the two or three threads on this, and not much new has been said recently.

If I had my way, I would just get the Summit, if again it didn't have the option for just 20s only. I like the better interior and suspect it might be quieter and built better?

Thanks for your help!

Matt

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

I'm not sure that the reliability of the Jeep could be made better by adding more things that could break. With that being said, I love the tech package on mine. The blind spot warning is great, and having it encourages you to always use your turn indicator when changing lanes (that's what activates the sensors). The adaptive cruise control is very helpful for long drives. I don't know about you but it's rare that I'm on the interstate with no other traffic that I have to follow. ACC makes this really easy.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

Hi Rumline,

That was my concern regarding adding the tech package. It is interesting that your year does not have any problems with the FCW/ACC and yet the 2014 does. I was wondering if that issue had been solved and/or how prevalent that issue was: as it sounded dangerous.

Thanks!

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

No, mine has had a problem with the FCW too. Only once. I was driving on the freeway with it activated and it sounded the warning and a second or two later applied the brakes automatically. I was caught off guard and didn't react initially, but once it started braking I hit the brakes further to turn off the ACC. Fortunately nobody was too close behind me, but I did get a one-finger salute. Now when I'm driving with ACC on, I keep a mental note to be ready to hit the "cancel" button on the steering wheel, just in case I need to shut it off in a hurry. That was over a year ago, never a problem before or since, knock on wood.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

Bought our overland a year ago with ACC and I don't think I can use standard cruise control ever again. it makes long drives so much more tolerable now and the FCW has easily paid for the price of adding this feature with the near collisions my wife had and it helped prevent. So far I haven't had any major problems with it, only the once in awhile "Brake!" alert when I'm pissed and trying to pass up a car trying to turn at the last minute only to have the sensor think I'm going to rear end them.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

I was originally going to get a Limited without Adv Tech Pkg because while I like useful features I just thought it was a bunch of techno junk. Luckily, I got sucked into the Summit because of the HK stereo and ended up with the Adv Tech Pkg. Man, was I wrong about that package. The adaptive cruise is just plain cool and functional. I swear my blood pressure is lower when driving on the freeway using it over regular cruise control. Blind spot detection has saved me from several unkind gestures from that person in the blind spot. FCW is useful but it will beat you to the punch occasionally when you aren't quite expecting it.

My build date is 11/6 and I have had zero functional/service issues with the Adv Tech Pkg.

I personally think a vehicle without it today is under equipped.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

Hi 14SummitHemi,

Not that I think its an option, but if I were able to get a Summit, do you think that its offroading capability is limited? Also, do you think the Summit rides quieter since it has the upgraded interior i.e. any better sound insulation? Is the leather (or seats) softer/better quality than the leather in the Overland?

I like the Summit for its upgraded features, but my wife and I do some light offroading/trailing i.e. patches of all rock road with rocks being 4-6 inches high (so quite bumpy). Do you think that the Summit despite its option for only 20 inch wheels would suffice?

Thanks for yours (and others input)!

Yes, Summit off-road capability is limited in the area of ground clearance (how much?) from the unique skirt plus no ORAII pkg. I cannot image running those 20's with Fortera's through those rocks. You would munch the edges of those rims fo shizzle!

I test drove LTD and Overland and things do get quieter and leather better as you go "up" the price ladder but IMHO the leather options in the LTD and Overland are quite nice. Summit is just a step up. Summit is definitely quieter and that's with the noisy junk Fortera's that come on it so when I get some real all-seasons it should be ultra-quiet inside.

I'm a realtor who needs some bling and winter cred so Summit Hemi suits me perfect. You sound like a LTD/Overland ORAII fam all the way.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

Hi Summit,

Well, my wife and I came from Lexus and chose this vehicle over BMW so we like our luxury. I don't think I could go down from the Overland.

So do you think they added extra insulation or is it just the suede-like material?

Its a delicate balance, because I want to do some light-medium off road but also want the better and natural leather. One complaint I have about the Overland is that I feel the seats are rock hard given the price point, and if they are more comfortable in the Summit, I may have to consider it. My wife likes the front parking sensors as well, which I felt was silly that it wasn't included in the tech package.

We are taking a big risk allowing them to replace us with a new Jeep rather than push for our money back. I just want to make sure that we get the maximum luxury and quality out of the right vehicle.

Re: Advanced Technology Package?

I love the advanced tech package on my '14 Overland. It's absolutely worth it. I love the blind-spot monitoring and the rear cross-path detection. The ACC is just icing on the cake.

Do it!

Laredo, Overland and Summit all show "Premium Insulation Group" on the build sheet so must be the difference in interior materials. Suede headliner/pillars, open pore wood (feels like plastic tho ), leather dash, etc... probably help absorb noise better than lesser materials. I also think having the HK sound system means there is more/different door panel/cavity insulation since it is an "engineered" surround sound system which should also help knock down exterior noise levels. I personally feel even the SUmmit has too much wind noise going on. Again, Summit is definitely quieter but to be honest I am spoiled from my BMW 5-series. NOTHING is as quiet as that cockpit!

Overland seats are the stiffest. I did not care for them myself. I must say the Summit seats are pretty darn comfortable. The build sheets list the seat cushion foam as:

#1 (Limited Capri Leather)
#2 (Laredo E/Cloth)
#3 (Summit Natura Plus Leather)
#5 (Overland Nappa Leather)

Another feature I thought, eh, who needs it. Sure is nice being able to tuck up tight on stuff pretty accurately. Not necessary, but nice.
