Adventure II benefits?

Hi All,

This is a great forum and I have gotten lots of assistance as I move forward into the world of WK2. I am going to order an Overland and was leaning towards adding the Adventure II package. I understand that this includes skid plates and 18" wheels. But what are the real world benefits? Wouldn't the stock 4X4 QL system provide enough safety and clearance that skid plates aren't needed? For $275 is the package worth it?

Thanks for your advice,
Rick

Re: Adventure II benefits?

Depends. Are you actually going to go offroad or just down dirt roads? 10.7" of ground clearance isn't a whole lot in rough offroad conditions.

IMO...if you arent going to do med-heavy offraoding...I wouldnt add the extra weight....BUT $275 is cheap for what you get.

Re: Adventure II benefits?

I want to participate in off roading. That is a big reason why I'm getting the 4x4. It just seems as though most of the 4x4s I am seeing in stock do not have the package and I was wondering if it was beneficial.

For me it's a good feeling to know I have extra protection. It's a good price for peace of mind, especially after that first tree stump you land on that was covered in snow..

You also get the Trail Rated Badge which shows you mean business...

I almost passed on the ORAII to get those sick 20" wheels, but thanks to Scottina I found out I can add those later without having to remove the plates. I think the extra weight is around 100 pounds..

Off Road with no ORAII is like playing Hockey without a mouthpiece... kinda

Then find one with it. You'll want the skid plates and they cost a lot to add later. You'll also probably prefer the 18" wheels. They give you more tire sidewall, better selection of off-road tires, and less wheel to scar up offroad.

I made sure my Limited had the package (as well as getting the QL suspension).

Re: Adventure II benefits?

It's easy enough to bring an Overland up to the "trail rated" spec that ORA II gives you, but you'll be spending quite a bit more than $275 to get there. The skid plates add up to about $500, the tow hooks about $150. The next thing to do would be to get a set of 18" rims with good all terrain tires, since those 20" ones aren't a good idea for off roading. I really wouldn't do anything that might be recognized as "off roading" without the skid plates and tow hooks- if you end up wishing you'd had them, chances are strong you're facing a difficult recovery, if not a several thousand dollar repair bill.

You're talking probably somewhere between $1300-2000, mostly depending on what wheels and tires you bought. Unless you *really* want those 20" rims, go ahead and go for ORA II.

Re: Adventure II benefits?

Thanks for the input! I will add the package.

I guess I should always remember to use protection.
