Affiliate Rewards - Documentation Fees

Today I called Chrysler Affiliate Rewards to get clarification on what fees the dealer was allowed to charge. The lady I spoke to was very willing to read the paragraph to me, but not willing to send the rules to me. She said the rules actually can differ by region so she asked for my ZIP to make sure she read the right thing. I couldn't type fast enough, but it went something like this....

Quote:
The participant may not be charge for preperation fees, overhead fees, ..... etc

One time documentation fees are allowed as governed by state laws in which the vehicle is sold but may not exceed documentation fees charged on any other vehicle sold at the dealship
So it looks like the dealer can charge the standard documentation fee (at least in my area) but is not allowed to try and recoup cost of the vehicle by charging any other fees or by raising the documentation fee. Hope this helps others, as there seems to be quite a bit of information on the forum and most of it suggest that fees can't be charged.

Re: Affiliate Rewards - Documentation Fees

^^^ Down in Florida there is this mysterious "dealer fee" from $400-$1200 depending on the car dealership...they can not charge that under the affiliate pricing program. I think there was a $49 e-filing fee that is the doc fees, no biggie, but $600 dealer fee, nope didn't pay that even though the dealership tried to convince me at first but I came prepared for that issue.

What do you mean "recoup the cost of the vehicle"? It is Chrysler/Jeep that is extending the discount, not the dealer, and Chrysler/Jeep reimburses the dealer. The dealer does not lose money money the deal. Some dealers are just sleaze balls and will try to get as much money out of you any way that they think they can get away with it.

Forget that affiliate pricing. Not good enough price for me. I'll be shooting for $1385 below invoice (+ future rebates) whenever they finally make it in Black Clear Coat with Bright Polished Wheels.

Chrysler does not reimburse the full amount, only a portion of it - so yes, the dealer would lose profit compared to if they were really going to sell the vehicle at MSRP. I was told this by both my sales guy at the dealership as well as the lady from Chrysler. It is NOT a full reimbursement.

Sounds correct. My dealer unfortunately has a $250 documentation fee and no other fees. To me they're all the same; a way for the dealer to make extra profit. I was surprised to hear the provision that specifically allowed a documentation fee after explicitly disallowing all other fees for profit.

Re: Affiliate Rewards - Documentation Fees

^^^ That is my understanding too. For me, the dealer was just an order taker...no test drive, no time going over options...nothing. Closed within 3 hours of off loading from the truck. They get the holdback, money from Chrysler for participating, other dealer sales goals stuff... They did more than fine selling a vehicle they didn't have on the lot to me.

Interestingly, my dealer could have cared less if I had an affiliate code or not...they was more than willing to provide me with one to use without the TL membership. But on Employee Pricing, nope weren't gonna do that for me.

There is enough demand around Atlanta that most of the stores with overlands in stock won't discount much below invoice. Also I wouldn't be surprised that the store gets a separate fee from Chrysler for units sold under the affiliate program so keep that in mind when negotiating.

Wilco where are you located?

Re: Affiliate Rewards - Documentation Fees

^^^ That sounds like a very good price...better than affiliate pricing. Three months ago more than one dealer I spoke to wouldn't even do the affiliate pricing for a Summit since they didn't want to use up an allocation...

Re: Affiliate Rewards - Documentation Fees

Keep in mind if you are ordering, you have a lot more negotiate than if you are buying off the lot because you are willing to wait.. I have been locating and buy an overland summit recently. I delta with a number of dealerships.. one dealer wanted to charge me 2k over msrp.. another dealer wanted to charge 800 over dealer invoice and the third decided to honor the affiliate pricing. They ARE charging a dealer fee of 399. This is understandable considering all three dealers have the summits on their lots and can easily sell them above invoice. One dealer said that jeep only reimburse them $400 of the discount.. is this suspect?? should I push to get the 399 dealer fee waived after I have already given the deposit? This money is just a drop in the bucket when buying a 45k+ vehicle.. I'm just glad I didn't have to wait.. but what do you guys think?
