After Market Trailer hitch

I am in the process of purchasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was looking into after market trailer hitches. I am using them for bikes and snowboards. Can someone recommend a brand? I've looked at Curt, Draw Tite. Both seems to be in the same price range and rating.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

Any of the 'usual suspects' can provide you with what you are looking for. Don't forget that the OEM hitch receiver can also be fitted to your JGC...it costs a little more than the after-market products but is better integrated into your vehicle and doesn't extend below the bumper.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

I can vouch for the Curt Hidden Hitch... I really like the fit and finish. Best part was it took me 10 minutes to install.

I only use the hitch for either my bike rack or cargo carrier.

Got it on ebay for $125 shipped

Thanks for the advice. It's hard to pick one after doing some research. Everyone of those have 4 1/2 stars and above. I was going to go with the recommendations from this forum.

I know the OEM hitch receiver would integrate better but I only use it to carry sports equipment. I didn't want to spend too much.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

I did use the Hidden Hitch system on my previous vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited and was very pleased with the product.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

I had one on my previous '08 WK and used it all the time without issue.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

I've only ever bought Curt hitches.
I like the small design details and welding better than others.

I also rough up the OEM paint with sandpaper and then coat it with truck bed liner before installation.

The hitch on my wife's RAV4 has been through at least 3 MN winters now and still no rust showing anywhere.

I myself would only consider the OEM hitch. The aftermarket ones are going to look aftermarket.

If your are buying a new Jeep, order it with the hitch installed. It has a nicely covered 4 and 5 pin wiring setup. If you go aftermarket, it will not look as nice. The OEM is made for your Jeep, as others (while they will work just fine) do not fit and look as well.

Re: After Market Trailer hitch

Anybody get the OEM trailer hitch installed after buying the car? Price? We're they able to integrate the wiring without ripping the car apart?

They are going to have to rip the rear bumper apart and cut out the compartment.

Does the tuck bed liner help?
