Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

I consider the system on my WK2 Summit to be somewhat anemic, compared to our (2) Volvos. Cooling load is less, and the fan air volume is less. Very little cooling gets delivered to the rear seat passengers. It would be nice to have more cooling, and better fan performance, as well as air vents in the B-Pillars.
Today's temps are mid 90's with moderate+ humidity -- Summit takes its time cooling us off, but ultimately gets there. I'm just used to faster/cooler.

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

If your WK2 AC isn't cold, I'd take it in to check the "freon" level etc.... Mine works just fine so isn't a design flaw.

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

It's been in the triple digits here for a few weeks and after sitting out in the sun all day the air gets cool almost immediately and the car is comfortable in 10-15 minutes which isn't long compared to any car I've had. Maybe there's just a temperature that kicks the cooling fan on in the high 90s/100s. It seems people where it's hot (100+) think it's fine and warm (~95) think it's just ok. My cooling fan has been running pretty much all the time so far this summer and kicks on right after starting it.

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

I agree. A/C performed beautifully here at 93% and humid yesterday. Picked wife up at work at 5 PM and got the truck in the garage just as the first of 2 hail storms started. Today is expected to be a repeat performance.

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

The AC on our V6 Overland works great. In fact, I regularly keep the temp a few degrees warmer than our old car. Otherwise I get too cold.

Are you keeping your sunroof shade closed? That's a big ol' pane of glass to let heat and light through. When it gets up above 90 I have the shade closed.

Yes. I also need to keep temp setting a few degrees warmer than in our Volvo.

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

It was about 100 deg today according to my evic, and I read the thread before, and never really gave my a/c some consideration. After reading this thread, I decided to concentrate on its performance. Today I had the temp set to about 63deg and it still wasn't cold enough. I turned it to low and it felt a little cooler, but not by much. In many other cars, when the temperature is set to the lowest setting, the cold air coming out of the vents is noticeably cold not just cool. I'm going wait a couple days and see if the system performance changes.

does anyone know if there are any tsb's regarding the HVAC system?

Re: Air conditioning thoughts?

Versus everyone giving their opinion on their idea of what cold is. Does anyone know what the temperature should be coming out of the vents? I would assume on LO it should be somewhere around 45 degrees.

I'm certain it's not R-12 (Freon), but likely R-134a; while there's other refrigerants right around the corner, 134a seems to be the current one.

Still, "Freon" has become like "Kleenex." While it's a brand name to refer to one particular product, any products in that class are referenced by that name. It's just easier to say "Freon" than "refrigerant." Not strictly correct, but everybody knows what we're talking about.
