Air suspension info

I was reading some information on the air suspension and I found it interesting that the compressor does have a small makeup hose for small loses. In other words if your have to change an air spring for example the system will make up the air loss from this repair on its own through a line that has a filter on it. The way I read it is the only time the system has to be manually filled is for a compressor or valve block replacement or if the system has just lost its whole charge. I just found it interesting because the system is supposed to be filled with class 5 nitrogen but these small makeups would not be that the way I understand it. Unless this inline filter does something.

Re: Air suspension info

That is very interesting since it is being touted as a closed system. Do you mind sharing the article?

Re: Air suspension info

Mine developed a leak and the dealer refilled it with nitrogen gas.

Re: Air suspension info

Yes if the system is fully depleted they need to re fill it with nitrogen. I had read some information that someone posted on another forum where they talked about the compressor making up small loses on its own, but it also said its not designed to refill the whole system. The air suspension on the wk2 site also talks about times when it will need to make up air like with large outside temperature changes.

Re: Air suspension info

Schematic of the system shows a "makeup intake" for the compressor.

Re: Air suspension info

Yes this shows what I was reading about. Its not designed to refill an empty system or keep up with a bad leak, but it add air as needed after work on the system or other small loses. So it looks to me over time pure nitrogen would mix with regular air. Am I correct?
