Alert: My14 gc brake line concern

Hi All,
Wish to raise this point as it is a matter of concern for all MY14 owners. I would like to ask if all owners of MY14 GC owners could check the tension of their brake lines when the steering is full locked. By chance this afternoon, I had parked the car with the wheels full locked to the left and just happened to look behing the wheel. I coud see the brake line was so tense, it has actually kinked at the joins at each end. At first I thought I was being over reactive until I asked my brother (qualified motor mechanic to check this), and he felt it should not be like that, and would only tighten further when the suspension would raise - as in an off road driving situation. I will take my car to the dealer to check this out tomorrow, and I would advise all to do the same. Eventually the hose will snap.
Please refer to attached photo.

Re: Alert: My14 gc brake line concern

There are 2 concerning factors at play here;
1. the kinking at the metal flange;
2. if the suspension extends, it will only get tighter.
Have you had a chance to look at yours?

This might be a non-issue, but the key word is might, so I too am subscribing.

Re: Alert: My14 gc brake line concern

great observation.

OP please tell us your build date and whether you have the air suspension. Post July 2013, they installed new brake hardware (ABS control module - maybe even lines) so we have to look at both types.

someone with an air suspension please go raise the car and snap a picture. I would do it myself...if my car wasn't at the dealership...

Re: Alert: My14 gc brake line concern

Well, before going to the JEEP dealership, I thought I would pass through my regular mechanical worskshop to get another opinion. All three qualified mechanics concurred this does not look right.
So I went to visit the local JEEP dealership. They checked my car, then they checked another. As far as they are concerned, this is the normal design and until any recall notice is issued, they don't consider this an issue. They thought this kink was normal as there was still flexibility in the hose????? That's right a kink in the brake line.....
I am still not happy, as although this is normal on the GC, it doesn't make it right.

I look forward to hearing of anyone else's experience with this.

Re: Alert: My14 gc brake line concern

Well thank you for sharing your observation. I would not be comfortable with that kink either. After seeing how carelessly assembled this car is and experiencing first hand failures of mechanical components while parked with engine off, I would not be surprised if it failed.

I have the air suspension and who knows, maybe we have longer brake lines.

If it fails, the outcome would be potentially deadly. In that context, I doubt this is a design fault. Maybe stronger material is used ?

Lots of JGCs on the road, has anyone heard of brake failures?
