Re: Almost 1k miles.. going in for first oil change.. advice?

Just did on mine 1700 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic + Mopar filter. Prefer to drain original oil as soon as 1K too. Works great, as on any of my cars. Don't listen above there is plenty on cheapo's owners on this forum who don't like to use good tires, recommended or higher octane gasoline, synthetic oil etc. Do whatever you think is good for your car. Also I don't go Jeep dealers for oil change even I got 6 months free oil change too. Why? I don't trust them. I got my oil/filter and I changed in place I trust for years. I prefer this way unless some warranty repair required.

Re: Almost 1k miles.. going in for first oil change.. advice?

I used 10W-30 Pennzoil for the first 6,000 miles in my '93 GC 5.2 then switched to Mobil 1. I change the oil and filter faithfully every 2,000 miles or two months and have 301,000 miles on the original engine. I'm doing something right.

IMHO, give the parts a chance to seat and create mirror smooth surfaces before switching to Mobil 1.

Re: Almost 1k miles.. going in for first oil change.. advice?

My mom's WKII is coming up on 7k miles. My dad refuses to go on any forum, and only goes by the "book" which I have no read yet but he claims it needs to be changed at every 7k miles without synthetic. I told him the break in oil should have been changed a long time ago and he keeps insisting that's not necessary and I shouldn't do it, just bring it to the dealer blah blah blah. Annoying stuff ^^^^^

With all the horror stories I hear I'll never bring my Jeep to the dealer for anything except a starscan update.

Will change the oil & filter in my Hemi at 1k with "conventional" oil, then do it again at 3k which is when I'll switch to Mobil 1.

Re: Almost 1k miles.. going in for first oil change.. advice?

Change or not to change, this is the question....
On modern engines I feel we dont need change iol so often, and not at 1000 miles only.
Gasoline engines (in Europe) request first change at 20.000KM (12.500 miles) than every 20.000 or 30.000Km (20.000miles)
Unless the engine will eat oil (thats easy to see, but than there is problem there!) I feel even change every 8000miles is already prudent.
For sure change oil filter every 1000 or 3000 miles is not bad for the car, but may be useless, just waste time and money.
Just follow the oil change indicator into EVIC.
100% sintetic like Mobil 1 is a must...

It is a non-synthetic 5W20.

Re: Almost 1k miles.. going in for first oil change.. advice?

Folks with the V6 Pentastar should stick to having their oil changed at the dealer. Since it's a new engine, reliability is unknown at this point. If a problem arises with the engine, then your butt is covered.

I plan on sticking to 5000KMs oil changes even though the manual says 8000KMs.

Everything I've seen says no, it doesn't ship with synthetic. Possibly the SRT's did/do but not the 5.7's.

As stated above, Chryco uses and recommends non-synthetic 5w20.

That said, my Chryco/Jeep Service Manager, who also owns a DD Hemi, recommends synthetic at first oil change and thereafter.
