My only request is do it yourself and make sure its done right. You can never be sure things are going to be done right at dealerships, especially Chrysler ones.
Appreciate the link, however, it primarily covers someones experience in changing their own oil.
Not really what I'm asking..
Maybe my question was not specific enough.. What I guess I'd like to know is while I am at the dealer getting the oil change, what else should they do on my initial visit? Any other checks? other fluids? etc..
Going to synthetic is a good idea. I have always used and prefer Mobile One synthetic, its come factory filled in many of the high performance cars I have owned including my 06 C6 Z06 corvette.
As far as anything else I dont think anything is recommended at 1,000 miles, heck an oil change isnt even recommended then but we all know why your doing it so soon since its a brand new motor.
I say do this oil change and filter, then go ahead and start going by the manufacturer suggested intervals.
I wouldn't change the oil...I would only change theFILTER....it catches all the gunk. put a new one in there so it can do what its suspose to...I did my own at 2,000 miles. I think you are going too early give everything a chance to seat and break in properly. I don't use synthetic until after 10K….just how I do business.
My dealer gave me a coupon for a free oil change so I brought in my 7qts of 5W20 Mobil1 and the Mobil1 oil filter and they changed it. They won by saving on the oil/filter, I won by saving time and got a free cappuccino too.
I agree about changing the filter. On the V6 it is dead simple and will allow you to see what the filter has caught by opening it up. You just need to buy a new filter beforehand. Depending on what you find you can decide if a full oil change is required.
I got the first done free too, will go synthetic maybe next time, I bought like 15 gallons at walmart and like 12 oil filters from K&N so I have all I need for the next few
I asked to rotate tires, they said not necessary and I went at 3,000 miles. I did get the TSB for the ESC updated, so you can ask if there are any outstanding updates/TSB's to be performed!
I would do it yourself, but if you do have it done somewhere make sure that you check the oil level when you get home. My experience has been that most oil change places overfill by 1/2 to 1 full quart. They just don't wait long enough after shutting down the engine to check the oil level. I got so sick of having to drain the extra out that I just started doing it myself.
Just did on mine 1700 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic + Mopar filter. Prefer to drain original oil as soon as 1K too. Works great, as on any of my cars. Don't listen above there is plenty on cheapo's owners on this forum who don't like to use good tires, recommended or higher octane gasoline, synthetic oil etc. Do whatever you think is good for your car. Also I don't go Jeep dealers for oil change even I got 6 months free oil change too. Why? I don't trust them. I got my oil/filter and I changed in place I trust for years. I prefer this way unless some warranty repair required.
I used 10W-30 Pennzoil for the first 6,000 miles in my '93 GC 5.2 then switched to Mobil 1. I change the oil and filter faithfully every 2,000 miles or two months and have 301,000 miles on the original engine. I'm doing something right.
IMHO, give the parts a chance to seat and create mirror smooth surfaces before switching to Mobil 1.
My mom's WKII is coming up on 7k miles. My dad refuses to go on any forum, and only goes by the "book" which I have no read yet but he claims it needs to be changed at every 7k miles without synthetic. I told him the break in oil should have been changed a long time ago and he keeps insisting that's not necessary and I shouldn't do it, just bring it to the dealer blah blah blah. Annoying stuff ^^^^^
With all the horror stories I hear I'll never bring my Jeep to the dealer for anything except a starscan update.
Change or not to change, this is the question....
On modern engines I feel we dont need change iol so often, and not at 1000 miles only.
Gasoline engines (in Europe) request first change at 20.000KM (12.500 miles) than every 20.000 or 30.000Km (20.000miles)
Unless the engine will eat oil (thats easy to see, but than there is problem there!) I feel even change every 8000miles is already prudent.
For sure change oil filter every 1000 or 3000 miles is not bad for the car, but may be useless, just waste time and money.
Just follow the oil change indicator into EVIC.
100% sintetic like Mobil 1 is a must...
Folks with the V6 Pentastar should stick to having their oil changed at the dealer. Since it's a new engine, reliability is unknown at this point. If a problem arises with the engine, then your butt is covered.
I plan on sticking to 5000KMs oil changes even though the manual says 8000KMs.
that odd. I just dropped the car off. the service guy said it comes with synthetic from the factory, and they will be changing it with pennzoil synthetic on my request (there is no charge since i bought the service contract). im at 1000 miles.
