Almost got a new car

I have a 2015 grand cherokee overland. Within the first month, I had to get the transmission replaced. I have had the car less than a year now since then and in the lat month have had the drive shaft replaced and now they are going to replace the sway bar. There is a noise that sounds terrible when I go over bumps. The drive shaft was actually cracked so they had to replace that. Now they are just replacing parts one by one to try to get rid of this noise.

I was getting fed up, so over the weekend I thought about getting a new car. I test drove the BMW X5 and the new Volvo XC90. Both high end luxury SUV's. After driving them, I decided I am going to stick it out and hope they can get my grand cherokee fixed. I forgot how nice of a ride it had until I drove the other vehicles. Both of them were loud on the road, you feel all the bumps, and other than some bells and whistles I felt more comfortable with what I had.

Re: Almost got a new car

I hope everything gets taken care of for you and after that the Overland treats you well. Unfortunately people are still dealing with the V6 8spd tranny issues.

Interesting observation, I have the X5 with 19" wheels, wondering which one you drove that made it loud? A lot of the noise is due to runflats which are good and bad at the same time. I will be in the market next year a JGC, Volvo, VW or GLC300, hopefully a lot of the JGC issues are resolved by that time. Good luck with the repairs, I would be pissed if that happened to me, is the dealer providing a loaner for you?

Good luck with repairs. I'm sure it will work out ok. I have 18,000 miles with no issues.
3 friends have X-5's. (One is an M.) They ride almost as bad as an armored tank. Wife had a Volvo XC-70 several years ago. Universals went at less than 40,000 miles, rearview mirror fell off. I'll stop there.

The M is definitely in the league of its own, fun for the first 20 minutes, maybe 10 years ago i would've enjoyed the stiff ride more. The new F15 body is more comfortable which makes me wonder which model OP drove.

Re: Almost got a new car

I don't have personal experience as I have no interest in owning a german vehicle, but based on some people I know and reading the internet (which means it has to be true:-), if reliability is a big factor then I probably wouldn't recommend getting a german built vehicle.

Reliability like with everything is a hit or miss, in my case I lease so not very concerned about long term cost and reliability. I am very concern however about owning a JGC which I will probably buy for 5-6 years.

By the same token, if you based expected reliability on what you read on the internet (on other than Jeep sites) you wouldn't consider a Jeep either

Or any other vehicle, no matter what the manufacturer, for the most part...

Re: Almost got a new car

If speaking German reliability we've owned a Q5 since new and it just crossed the 100k mark. I've done all maintenance and only issue to speak of was oil consumption which was taken care of under warranty at 75k.

I've owned 2 other Audi's and same results. As someone else already stated you can have reliability issues with any manufacturer.

Personally id stay away from the new XC90 until the new car bugs are worked out. Probably the same thing a lot of early 2014 wk2 owners wish they would have done.

Following sweedspeed and other blogs, seems like Volvo is working very hard with new customers on resolving the issues, most are very happy with dealer and manufacturer involvement. Hopefully the 2017 model will have most quirks worked out.

Re: Almost got a new car

I was lucky that I got the mopar extended warranty which allows me a rental car for a day each time I have to take mine in. I am going to give them another shot or two at fixing this problem. I have ruled out the BMW and Volvo. I think that Audi Q5 would be my next choice unless the tesla SUV comes out and is somewhat affordable. Most likely though I am going to keep the GC
