Altitude III in person, and a few questions

Hey folks,

I saw an altitude III today. See the attached pics, first thing to note is the black bezels on the tail lights that were discussed in the other thread. (Even though the window sticker still said grey) The second thing is silver trim on the interior. Finally, a dark interior without that nasty copper/goldish off-silver crap.

So, now to my questions.

#1. Has anyone ever driven a v6 and v8 and noticed a difference in the steering? I know its two different systems, but I was not expecting the difference in feel. Aost felt like it was a faster rack as well.

#2. Trailer tow package on the v6 doesn't list a trans cooler. Is this because the v6 already has one? Just an unlisted item? I find it hard to believe the v8 gets one with the tow package, but the v6 doesn't. Or maybe that's just how it is. I am towing a boat that scaled at 4700 lbs with trailer and fuel, for reference.

Enjoy the pics, looks like someone was listening with the minor tweaks...

Cool, thanks! I was hoping the interior would be silver and no longer rose gold. Did you notice any other changes for the iii package? Black exhaust pipe? Anything else?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your v6/v8 questions.

From what I could see, those were the only changes. I'm not 100% familiar with the altitude II package. Driver seat was power with lumbar adjust; passenger was manual. Manual adjust steering column. No seat memory on drivers side. (May be the same as the II, just listing the differences I saw from the Limited I helped my parents get)

To me, the silver interior trim shot this to the top of my list. I might not get the best deal though, dealers are not budging off invoice (at best) for altitude editions.

Is the Altitude now available with a V8?

Re: Altitude III in person, and a few questions

To your steering question...remember, the V8 weighs more and that's going to affect the steering "feel". But since that's not available with the Altitude, it's not a factor unless you decide to go to the Limited instead.

V6 towing package doesn't have as many features as the heavier V8 models with factory tow. Presumably, they feel the extra cooling isn't necessary with the lower towing limit of the V6.

Re: Altitude III in person, and a few questions

The V6 has electric steering. The V8 does not. So there is more "feel" with the V8 which is a good thing.

Re: Altitude III in person, and a few questions

Thank you very much for posting. Did you happen to notice if the trim around the windows is still chrome?

Re: Altitude III in person, and a few questions

The chrome is still around the windows.

The steering thing is still an interesting topic. I have spent a good amount of time the past few years driving a '14 v8, and the v6 I drove instantly felt better. With the amount of cars I have driven on track days, I feel I have a pretty good gauge for steering. I mean neither are near the feel of my evo or the Elise I used to drive, but to me the v6 felt better. Maybe it was the less weight on the front wheels. Turn in seemed words better, not as numb off center.

Tires were the same Goodyear's on the 20's, so it wasn't that

I appreciate all the input from everyone, I think I'm going to place my order this week.

Re: Altitude III in person, and a few questions

Ahh I though the pics on the Jeep site looked like the interior was now silver tone in the Altitude. I like it better with the dark interior. The black taillight bezels are much better IMO than the satin grey ones prior.
