Altitude or Limited?

I'm trying to decide between an Altitude or Limited WK2. I've gone over things 100 different times, and in the process probably just confused myself more I don't especially like the extra chrome trim on the limited (wish they had body color options), which is why I'm leaning towards the Altitude at this point. Then I also think, hey, I could just have the chrome parts painted and I'd be ok too.

So... I ask of the forum, which would you choose and why? Is there some glaringly obvious reason I should choose the Limited over the Altitude that I'm not seeing?

The vehicle won't be used off-road except for very minor trips once or twice a year. It WILL be used to tow our pop-up camper though, which is only about 2500lbs. In general, it will get me from point A to point B... in style

Re: Altitude or Limited?

My only thing with the Altitude.. which I love for now is everything being blacked out. but like you said the chrome on the limited is a bit much, chrome mirrors which i like but the door handles right below the chrome window trim is a bit much. i would just get the LAREDO X with the 18in polished aluminum wheels, or still get the laredo x and buy after market 20's for the Overland or limited. or buy the Laredo X with the 18in aluminum wheels it has on it... or another option the Laredo 20inch package... awesome wheels its what I have on mine...

Re: Altitude or Limited?

Its all about what really looks good to you. After all you are going to be making a major purchase. If it were me though I would choose the Limited V6 with Lux package for the vented seats, towing group and the blind spot package. I am a fan of the chrome and dont want the air suspension issues that may arise as time goes on. They are great in their own way.

Re: Altitude or Limited?

Yes, I'm still debating. I need to find a dealer in my area with a bunch of different models in stock so that I can actually see the differences between them, I guess. I'm also conflicted because I like the blacked out look now... but will I still like it in 5 years? I don't know

Re: Altitude or Limited?

I love my Stone White Altitude. The contrast from the black is awesome.

Re: Altitude or Limited?

correct me if im wrong but u get HID's, heated rear seats, pano roof and some other things standard on the limited..plus lux package option which i love on my limited.. and to me the HID's alone are worth going with a limited over a laredo x or altitude... but i am also not a black out person..my harley has every peice of chrome you can get on it lol... i like chrome over black so i pick the limited...but the altitude is AWESOME looking blacked out..i just wouldnt want to have to detail it all the time lol.....

Re: Altitude or Limited?

I just bought a 2012 Laredo which I am picking up next week. I have already purchased a set of Overland wheels off ebay. I like the leather that the X model and the Altitude come with, aswell as some other goodies but I couldn't justify the difference in price. It seemed like a lot!

I like the Altitude, but I am not sure how I feel about the wheels? Would they look like hell later on or would I even like them?

Re: Altitude or Limited?

I got an Altitude in mineral grey. I have about 4,700 miles on mine and its mission profile is to be a great car that will get me 30K to 40K down the road every year, rain, shine or snow. I might take it off road on a light trail, but I don't plan to bash up a $38K sticker vehicle. Maybe when it get 200K+ miles on it, I might convert it to a trail basher, but for now it is my family truck.

All that having been said, I really like the look and wish that they had the blacked out badging and window trim, but alas, it has chrome. The only thing I would change if I could would be to have the vented seat in addition to the heated option. Mine does not have that, and I have lived 55 years without it, so I doubt it will kill me to not have it, but that is really all I would change if I could.

If I was going to go off roading much, I would buy some 17" wheels & off road tires as that would likely help the QT1 quite a bit. The QT2 might also come in handy if I was going to do more off roading.

Re: Altitude or Limited?

It's a matter of personal taste really. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Altitude, I like it in black and that's about it. But the thing I dislike is that black front grille, I think if instead of black it were body colored I'd like it a lot more.

At the end of the day, the Limited is more of a luxury oriented model, with the Altitude being more... well I don't really know what to call it. I test drove a Limited originally after not really wanting the wood steering wheel in the Overland. Then I bought an Overland because I loved the leather dash, the nicer Nappa leather, etc. I don't think I would have bought an Altitude even if it had come with the Overland interior and features.

Now if the Altitude had the S-Limited interior, and had body color painted bits, that would have been something I'd have given thought to.

My 2 cents: The Limited model is classy, timeless, and conservative. It's not a "love it or hate it" sort of thing, so no matter how it's being used, it will fit in fine. Furthermore, it's not going to have a smaller number of people wanting that style of vehicle when you go to get rid of it, meaning better residuals.

That said, there's nothing on the Altitude model that can't be switched out to a normal piece if so desired. At the same time, if you decided you liked the altitude look, you could always convert to that style with a few cans of Plastidip for under $100 likely.

Re: Altitude or Limited?

I'm going to a dealer or two tomorrow to do some more in person looking. I'll make a decision then

You know, if they just had an option for body color matched chrome areas it would make this decision much easier. We were camping this weekend and the people next to us had a WK2 Laredo, and the chrome (that I thought I didn't like) started to disappear by the end of the weekend.
