Try putting some music on the thumb drive.
I havent tried since updating, but on mine, if you switched to media with the drive in, it would refuse to recognize.

Also make sure the drive is fat32 formatted and has only the swdl.iso file on it when you try it again.

You might want to check your build, it may be current.

Re: Am I an IDIOT for purchasing a 14 JGC Summit??

OP
From what I can tell the JGC bugs for 14 have been worked out. I have owned virtually all types of cars. Until last year I had two M3's and still have my E93 retractable hardtop convertible. I am fast approaching the end of BMW ownership and not because of poor service. To the contrary I have received excellent service. My issue is with the proprietary nature of working on a BMW. I keep my vehicles a LONG time 10-12 years. I can repair virtually anything on a BMW but the over engineered systems (I am an engineer and pilot by the way) are just too much to put up with. Last year I bought a new Subaru Outback. Fantastic vehicle and if they had the diesel I would have bought another one this year. They don't. I have followed the JGC diesel offering since announced back in 2012. I sold my Super Duty diesel 17 months ago and need a replacement vehicle. My SD needed nothing except one repair which was my fault. 180K miles and fantastic vehicle as well but too big and not needed since I don't tow a sailboat anylonger.
Virtually any vehicle is going to be trouble free if you only keep them 1 1/2 years. Vehicles are so good today it is a matter of well you see out of them (JGC is about average) how comfortable (JGC is excellent) how much value as you mentioned and the intrinsic how well you like it. I am ordering next week and for me it is all about the diesel engine. The price differential will never pay back until I hit 200K miles but it doesn't matter I like it. I like my BMW and I like my Outback. My wife--all vehicles are appliances.
I think the more you drive yours the more you are going to like it.
I am also going to buy the longest warranty or as Jeep speak service contract that I can since the electronics while usually reliable might not be so it is insurance to me.

I don't think you are an idiot for buying one if you keep it long enough to get some value out it...

Thanks guys! After confirming the thumb drive was fat32, I decided to copy the Update file to my pc and re-format the thumb drive in fat32 even though it was already in fat32. Afterwards, I copied the Update file back to the thumb drive, plugged it in, and it was recognized immediately! Now I'm sitting in the vehicle while it updates.

Agree if you keep cars a long time the Unlimited years/Unlimited miles warranty for 2K is a no brainier. You may have to settle for the 8/120 on the diesel though for whatever reason the diesels don't get the unlimited, not sure why jeep did that.

Perhaps not an idiot, but you may very well come to a time when you regret not having all of the money spent on such frequent vehicle changing.

I really shouldn't have to go here but since you opened the door I'll walk through. If you only knew my yearly income you'd probably hit edit and delete your comment. So in closing, I doubt it!

Re: Am I an IDIOT for purchasing a 14 JGC Summit??

MOST... of the issues with the UConnect are IE 10 Security issues not UConnect or those Bozos that built that site ... Anyway disregard my last comment, they are working very hard to improve the delivery of the software and they are better than where they were a few months back by far... Microsoft just changes the rules of the game too often and the other Browser groups often follow.

We started the UConnect VIP section due to difficulties with getting the software. We do our very best to help out but we aren't perfect either. It is only VIP because we offer the extra help and assistance to go with the problems you may encounter, not the software itself.

Personally I can't help everyone with every problem, but I can tell you 13.38.52 is very good, and will further improve your Bluetooth Experiences, VR and NAV!

YOU ARE NOT AN IDIOT!

Breath slowly and repeat after me:

I can drive whatever car I want. I do not need a German logo on my car to feel important...........

Now that I have you relaxed, welcome to the Jeep family.

My last German vehicle out of 3 I had in parallel is my 2004 BMW motorcycle. Now if dodge made a bike with a HEMI engine, I'd probably kill myself trying to ride it :-)

You could have spent $25,000 more for a Mercedes-Benz M-Class, but that would be one very expensive set of chrome labels...

Net worth, not income, is the more important number. Things change, and opportunities to invest and to give came along. The IRS data shows that those in upper income levels, especially the very top, generally do not stay there long (and same with those at the bottom). Of course, if you are only spending 0.001 or less of your net worth, the purchases are insignificant. This thread reminds me of one of the many funny stories in The Millionaire Next Door, this one about two doctors making $750,000 per year, but one essentially broke and the other not, but the broke guy spending all kinds of time buying new Porsches. Hopefully nobody here is in that sad situation.

Great advice and great book by Mr. Kiyasaki (Sp?).
