Re: Am I Crazy?

The GTS starts at $83K not $125K. Why anyone would buy at GTS is beyond me, if you only get .2 seconds quicker than the S which starts at $66K. Those ground effects are surely not worth $20K.

If you were comparing apples to apples you would have to step up to the Turbo which starts at $110K, even though it beats out the SRT8 by a small margin.

I can just say that the two can't even be compared. One has exceptional build quality, and the other one is built in the USA.... kinda says it all. BTW, I own a jeep.

you should've read the article....that was the as tested prices of BOTH vehicles.

That being said......I have driven the cayenne, cayenne s, cayenne gts and cayenne t and if they are worth the HUGE price difference...Ill drive my brand new 14' SRT off a damn cliff. I LOVE the Cayenne and would LOVE to have one......BUT Theres no one......NO ONE who can honestly say any Cayenne is worth DOUBLE the price of an SRT. Please please please show me the differences in quality, materials etc. JMHO.

Re: Am I Crazy?

If we include the price, SRT is the best value in the performance SUV market without any discussion.

Cayanne, SRT, X5M, ML AMG all are very nice but if someone wants a performance car, it should be much lower than an SUV and lighter. If you have sporty driving style, With a performance SUV you will be disappointed sooner or later at a sharp corner.

For the snow comment it all depends on tires, any FWD car with winter tires will perform better than all SUVs with summer performance tires.

The jeep isn't bad by any means just not as smooth and surefoated. I will test drive a 2014 and see if the new 8 speed trans helps.
The 2004 - 2010 Cayenne had an incredible 4WD system, including low range. The 2011+ Cayenne does not have low range. Nevertheless, the Cayenne is a very capable off-road SUV.

You need to look at what comes standard in the SRT vs. GTS. While the GTS offers a lot of standard equipment, I would guess that it would be north of $90K to match a SRT. I do agree about the price premium of a Cayenne GTS over a Cayenne S. It is not worth it.

Come on now, you have to be at least 50% logical. There is a massive price premium from a Jeep to a Cayenne. I am not sure about the build quality, but I will agree that the interior of the Cayenne is incredible. Having said that, the Jeep has a very nice interior too.

It is not worth double the price, even with the nicer interior. I would say that, "apples to apples", the Cayenne is worth possibly $10,000 over a Jeep. The rest is the "Porsche Premium".

Re: Am I Crazy?

Even if I was a billionaire, I would much rather have the srt over the Porsche. Nothing wrong with the Porsche thou. Shoot, I guess I would have both if I was a billionaire.

+1. Porsche has way too many buttons on that center console. They must think its a miniature Boeing 747. I also could not understand the logic in having to put the keyfob into the ignition switch located to the LEFT of the steering column. I know its part of Porsche history but its time to move to the future. I also don't think they offer keyless start. But for the 30K premium over the WK2, they do give you full LED taillight/brakelights.

Re: Am I Crazy?

The ignition on the left comes from racing days when the drivers run to their cars, start, shift and drive. Having ignition on the left means, you right hand is on the gear shift lever to shift to first while others are taking their hands off the ignition. Saves precious times in a race.

The Panamera 4S is incredible vehicle although I would say it is ugly. But, once you are inside it, it drives like a 911. On ice/snow, with proper tires of course, it is amazing vehicle. We drove it over frozen Georgetown lake last winter including our Cayenne S, and these vehicles are easy to toss, drift, slide and control. I drove a bunch of Audis as well and the difference between all-season tires and winter tires was day and night.

Anyways, I will say that the build quality on a Porsche is excellent. For example, comparing my Jeep's window trim to the Cayenne's is day and night. The interior carpets, soft plastic(?), etc is totally different.

This incident should tell the quality of Porsche vs Jeep. Few months ago, my wife strapped our 2 yr old in her car seat, accidentally locked the car with key inside. The kid was screaming her lungs out while I called the local fire department (we had only 1 key at that time). The fire department had the toughest time prying the door to slide a wire to unlock the door. The guys said that this was their toughest car ever and they have unlocked lots of cars. The guy also said that it was a good thing and shows the quality of the car.

I am not saying the Jeep is inferior. I am a huge Jeep fan and if I compare to the 1998 GC I had, quality wise, especially interior, is kind of cheap. My old GC's carpets were really good the day I sold it (14 yrs later) with a lot of abuse. The exterior paint stood up to a lot of abuse as well (tree branch scraping, rough car washes, Minnesota winter road salt, etc). I sat on the hood of it many time to take pictures and it did not bend on me. I understand the newer vehicle has to be lighter for EPA fuel requirements and hence thinner materials and thin coats of paint(?).

There is a difference between the vehicles and every time I drive the Porsche, I feel like I am part of the car. The Jeep feels like a luxury cruiser with great off-road capabilities. I bet the SRT8 will be a good alternative perhaps. I am not sure since I have not driven it. I drove the Cayenne S, Panamera GTS and other vehicles at the High Plains Raceway last September and the Cayenne can handle any curves you throw at it. It is a real 5 people sports car.

I enjoy driving both vehicles.

Cheers,
-A
