Angry Am I Crazy?

So here's my dilemma, I bought a loaded 2013 Summit with the Hemi and feel that I made a mistake. Not because I bought the 13, but that I should have gotten the SRT8. I traded in my Cayenne S for it and I thought with the Hemi it would be enough, but it's a huge step Dan in performance and drivetrain refinement. The trans on my Summit drives me crazy with the clunking, hesitation and general slush under hard acceleration. I like everything else about the truck, just it's performance I think is subpar in this price range(my parents Lexus rx350 is more refined). So with just over 5k miles I'm thinking of trading it in for an SRT8. How bad do you think the beating is going to be and will I be
disappointed with the SRT8 as well? What do you think I can get a left over 13 SRT8 for? Am I crazy to even think about this?

Re: Am I Crazy?

If your expectation is a good drivetrain, I would say you have to step up to 2014. I never drove a Porsche but 8 speed with 6.4 feels really nice and refined. I dont think you will be happy if you get an 13, dont do the same mistake again.

Re: Am I Crazy?

i would agree. traded my 11 laredo for a 14 limited. same motor etc.. the new trans mission with the 8 speed is much better!!! like night and day (and the 2014 SRT8 is faster than the 13)

You're crazy for getting rid of your Porsche...

Anyway, if speed is your concern the SRT won't disappoint.

I totally disagree, my Cayenne 4 wheel drive system was superior to my Summit in deep snow, ice and mud. It would just plow through it without slippage or any hesitation.....can't say the same thing for my Jeep, it slides and slips much more. The jeep isn't bad by any means just not as smooth and surefoated. I will test drive a 2014 and see if the new 8 speed trans helps.

It could also have something to do with the tires. My guess is the Porsche came with a lot higher quality tires than the Jeep, especially if your Jeep has the GY Forteras.

Re: Am I Crazy?

Porsche would have come with street summer tires at best. The Jeep even with the horrible so called off road tires are still better as standard. The Porsche does have a kick ass 4X4 system as well. I would class Porsche, Jeep, Audi/VW, and Land Rover all about the same given their best 4X4 system is fitted.

Re: Am I Crazy?

Porsche's 4wd is very good. Ever heard of Transsyberia race? The 959 won the Dakar Rally. The VW Tuareg which shares some of the 4wd systems with the Cayenne does very well off-road.

The SRT8 would probably be a close match to the Porsche Cayenne S/Turbo. But, I am not sure about the handling and driving experience of the SRT8. I have not driven the Jeep SRT8. But, I have driven the new Cayenne Diesel and Turbo in an autocross and the Cayenne does not feel like it is an SUV. Just today, I drove the Cayenne Diesel along at Pikes Peak International Raceway (autocross) and it feels amazing!! Drove the same on a frozen late back in January and that thing can handle very well in snow/ice.

The only way you can find out is go out there and test drive an SRT8. Good luck!

Cheers,
-Aiyer

Re: Am I Crazy?

To answer your question - Yes, you are crazy!
Go get your Porsche back. Jeep is ok, but Porsche Cayene is different world and is years ahead in technology level. Motor in Cayene sits lower and suspension is a lot better. SRT has big engine but can't compare with Cayene in handling.
