Re: amazing mpg on Hemi yesterday

I came close to that yesterday on a short run of the NJ Tpk. I usually don't pay attention to mileage, but I gassed up at 13 and stopped at the last service center before exit 1. There were very few slow downs which the cruise control took car of. I barely touched the gas and never touched the brake.

Re: amazing mpg on Hemi yesterday

^^that's excellent.
If it were not for my experience the previous week, I would have told myself you were on crack and coasted down a hill and took a picture just to jack with all of us.
I am going to be making this trip again... before June 1st, but cannot say when exactly.
Big part of me wants to "hypermill" it in both directions to get a true average... another part of me wants to let the Hemi eat and get the trip over with.
I'll let you know either way to keep this thread honest.

Be interesting to see what you come up with. I only make the trip once a year. With only 3,000+ miles on the Jeep right now it should be a little better in a year. That is if there is another miracle and we have no traffic jambs two years in a row.

Nice. I did a 250 mile all highway round trip a couple weeks ago. Got 23.2 on the dash and 22.4 hand calculated. I was doing between 70-80 the whole time.

Re: amazing mpg on Hemi yesterday

update, made the trip yesterday ~350miles, 6hrs... but, were in a bit of a rush. Left at 3:15am home at 9am. Morning rush hour through Tucson on the way back was not bad, but did catch the tail end of morning rush "hour" heading back into Phoenix... but only plugged along at 0-45mph for about 10 minutes, so, pretty lucky.
My oldest dog had surgery the day before, and we simply wanted to get the trip over with and be back home to tend to the old girl.
85mph cruise and a/c both directions... 20.6mpg. Since that is pretty typical, no photo.

Re: amazing mpg on Hemi yesterday

Udate: Mixed interstate/town got it up to 19.5 mpg. What's interesting is I got that MPG reading for several miles/minutes without using Eco mode/MDS. I always drive in 1-6(rarely use the 6th gear) gears. On the interstate, i run between 62 and 72 mph.

I bought a Hemi V8 on purpose. I will use all 8 cylinders.

Re: amazing mpg on Hemi yesterday

Mike H, 28 MPG in a Hemi, call me impressed. That is pretty cool. I always like watching for MPGs and range (distance on a full tank), so that's part of why I chose the Diesel, but it's great to hear that the Hemis have the ability to get very good MPGs. These rigs are awesome, aren't they?

My problem is, I usually like driving a little too fast and so my MPGs aren't often stellar.

Yes, me too as you can see in my update above.
Neat thing about the trip with the excellent millage is that, I need glasses to read/see up-close. So, the entire trip home I could not see exactly what the average was. I could tell it was 2x... but was thinking it was ~23 maybe, which in itself I was impressed with. When we finally got close to our exit in Phoenix I threw my spectacles on and was shocked... thus the cell pic, that unfortunately did not turn out.
