Re: Annoying doors

I asked the dealer about this a few weeks ago and they said there is nothing that can be done to fix this problem.

Re: Annoying doors

Maybe has to do with the door seals and the quiet interior. Maybe they are using different door seals or more seals and maybe the doors close easier with the sunroof open? Never tried.

oh i have heard it...we have 3 kids 3.5 yrs and under... heard that comment too much...i know it would be more convinient with the sliding doors(especially automatic ones) but i need a vehicle that looks good, has good 4x4 capability(not that i offroad my jeep but like to have the option incase hahaha) and is cool looking hahhaa.. dont get me wrong, the odyessys and siennas are decent looking..but i would rather deal with 3 across kids, opening doors and so on than drive one... also, if u use the 3rd row in a minivan you have no decent cargo area...another reason why i chose an suv and got 3 kids across a second row to keep a decent cargo area for strollers etc...

Re: Annoying doors

The Dodge caravan has an AWD option, and if you can get second row buckets, so you can even walk between the seats and smack the kids seated way in the back around without getting out in the rain (I jest). You can't do that in a WK2. Even with 3rd row seating, my caravan had more cargo room than the WK2. So get a caravan and stop trying to make the WK2 into a minivan that looks like a Jeep. The WK2 is just too nice to be a kid mover, with melted lollypops, crayons, and worse in the seat cracks... You know Chrysler now sells a manly styled and equiped caravan just for you.

Entry and step in height are tricky for kids below 6 years to manage, with kids the minivan clearly wins, I don't like them either but there's nothing better out there.

Re: Annoying doors

I'm such a dork that when I got home from work I actually played with my doors for five minutes in my driveway. My neighbor walked by and mumbled "weirdo".

It is surprising how far they open but honestly mine doesn't need to be pushed hard at all to close. Therefore, I find all other opinions invalid.

Carry on.

Re: Annoying doors

This isn't a minivan or jeep thread. I am well aware u can get an awd minivan. Then I would plow snow up my mile long driveway every winter with it too.. Let's get back to topic. I will use my wk2 as a kid hauler thanks for the suggestion on a minivan. Not gonna happen.. Plenty of familyies opt for an suv to haul kids over a van. Is it the best choice? No but gotta compromise with enjoying the vehicle over convenience sometimes...

As the door seals break in, the doors will close with a little less force.

As for the door checks, yes a 3/4 open check would be nice, but I have yet to find a perfect vehicle that does everything well. There is no such vehicle.

I do appreciate that the doors do open wider than any vehicle I have ever owned. I noticed this the first time I opened the doors on the new WK2.

DITTO.

I have no problem closing my doors and they don't take an unusual amount of force. And I'm also coming from a Toyota (2005 4Runner).

Re: Annoying doors

I have to slam the doors on my '12, seems to be a regular for me when I back my Jeep out of the garage in the morning that one of the doors were not closed all the way from the last one out and then the terrible fitting doors on the lower part, the front doors hand out quite a bit more than the fronts.

Yeah if the third row is stowed in the floor, for sure it does. Minivans also have a nice flat floor which makes it more efficient to move around and to haul inside than any SUV. Much better height to the cargo area as well.

Of course there is less volume behind the third row in a Minivan than behind the second row in a WK2...but it also has three rows of seats! You really can't compare the two.

My sister in law has an 18 month old and they have an Odyssey, the previous model not the new one. Its a VERY versatile vehicle. Even with the third row up, theres a deep compartment in the floor behind the seat, so what it lacks in cargo area length, it makes up for in ability to stack luggage or strollers behind that seat. On top of that with the flat floor and endlessly configurable seating its easy for people to move around, for a bunch of people to travel with kids, etc. Things that are impossible in a Jeep. I mean...you can have three car seats and carry 4 adults...and luggage.

I hate to say it...but when we have kids in a few years...its hard to make a case for keeping a two row SUV like the Jeep over a minivan.
