Of course there is less volume behind the third row in a Minivan than behind the second row in a WK2...but it also has three rows of seats! You really can't compare the two.

My sister in law has an 18 month old and they have an Odyssey, the previous model not the new one. Its a VERY versatile vehicle. Even with the third row up, theres a deep compartment in the floor behind the seat, so what it lacks in cargo area length, it makes up for in ability to stack luggage or strollers behind that seat. On top of that with the flat floor and endlessly configurable seating its easy for people to move around, for a bunch of people to travel with kids, etc. Things that are impossible in a Jeep. I mean...you can have three car seats and carry 4 adults...and luggage.

I hate to say it...but when we have kids in a few years...its hard to make a case for keeping a two row SUV like the Jeep over a minivan.
With the third row up is all that matters to me. I can carry all kinds of stuff in the jeep with the seats folded down but can't carry my kids. So in a van I would use the third row which to me makes for a pretty small area to throw a double stroller in plus luggage and stuff. We can go back and forth all day but the fact still remains I bought a wk2. 3 kids are my max(got fixed) and it works great for a three kid hauler...we will see when they are arguing over the window seats but that's a couple yrs from now haha.. Only complaint is this door thread which is just an annoyance...

I have 3 kids (10, 8 and 4) and never had a minivan. I do agree that a minivan is probably the best for kids but come on, it's a minivan. I had no problems taking all 3 on vacation in 1 car with luggage or towing my toys around ( I had a 2005 Crown Vic and before that a 2000 Nissan Altima as the kid cars ). It may have been a little easier in a minivan but not much.

I hate minivan's.

For the drivers door, I do notice a slight indent at about 45 degrees or so. However it is so slight that I can see it wearing down with regular use anyway.

The 90 degree openings are great, but I too find myself leaning out in-order to close my door at times.

Silverado door which were much bigger closed a lot easier. I'll be getting to go and see the doors are open light on the dash all the time.

Re: Annoying doors

Close fine, no excessive effort...
but do share feelings of a weak 'half stop' detent.
and though i also appreciate the wide full open, do find it a stretch to reach to close, i anticipate additional wear on the covered 'grab' on the door panel...maybe a durable door pull would have been a thought?

also note the size difference of the hinges compared to the old XJ, MJ and ZJ i have

Yeah, I used to say that I'd never drive a station wagon, but eventually I needed the utility, and then went to the minivan, nothing better as a family transportation appliance (not for off road or truck duty, however). First a short wheel base minivan then, as the family grew, the long wheel base that is not currently offered. You could take the seats out and stow a 4x8 piece of plywood and close the gate, talk about an utility appliance. Now I'm back to the WK2 station wagon, or as the Yuppies refer to it, a SUV. Without kids, currently it suits my transportation appliance needs better....
