How much are you folks paying to have this done? I am most interested in hear from people in NYS as states vary, but anyone's comments are welcome. Thanks.
$000.00 as we don't have state inspections in Michigan for personal, private vehicles. Only things like school busses and/or big trucks get state inspections here. Also, we only have the rear license plate which only gets swapped out every 10 years unless you damage it and it needs replacing, or you just want to change the design. In between the 10 years it is just a tiny sticker you place in the upper right hand corner of the plate.
Similar to Michigan in South Dakota. Only difference is we have to have front and rear plates, and the sticker goes in the bottom right. No state inspections.
Here in NC we have an annual safety inspection which costs $13.60 except certain counties also require an emissions check for an additional $30. Luckily up here in the mountains, it's only $13.60
In Delaware new vehicles need no inspection for the first five years. It is done at the DMV and is part of the registration fee. I never had a car old enough, so I don't know the cost, nor do I know how often after they start.

DE does not charge for inspection specifically but I am sure it is figured in as part of the annual registration fee. New cars can be registered for 5 years. After the first 5 years max registration term is 2 years and inspection is required at each renewal.
Dealer provides the inspection sticker for free and only charges for the emissions test and sticker...about $60, give or take if I'm recalling clearly.
Passenger car inspections here in MA are currently $31. IIRC, inspection on a new vehicle here is "free" or nearly so (based on the cert of origin), and the dealer has to get it done (within seven days of registration).
I asked because dealer sent me coupon for $21 and I do not remember what I paid in the past though many years ago it was $14. Our other vehicle is "no charge" because we bought service package.
Yours is $10 probably to get you into the dealership. My dealer does it by significantly discounting gas for customers and other vehicle gets free weekly car washes.
Ours is $16 a year in va for inspection and $28 for emissions. Emissions is every other year depends on county. The costs are minimal it's more the PIA factor here as you are not aloud to make an appointment for an inspection only, it's walk in only. If you are having other work done you can add an inspection on to that appointment but can't make an appointment for an inspection by itself. So if you don't coordinate your other work with it can be hours wait in line or dropping a car off to get it done, or just knowing the good times to go to avoid the lines and waiting. I usually just make an appointment for a tire rotation and put inspection with that because I do other maintenance myself and tire rotation is something I'd rather let them do anyway, it's hard for them to f that up.
NY inspection is the same cost any shop you go get it done at it should be around 38 bucks. The price is set by the state even though individual shops do the inspection in that state.
Wisconsin - no inspection, emissions check every other year after 1st year of ownership - until a vehicle reaches 20 years old, then no emissions inspection either. Emissions test costs $0.00, you get a pass/fail which will/won't allow you to purchase your annual registration sticker. Registration sticker costs based upon what type of plate you have - mine is $81 as a Wisconsin Firefighter.
I arrived at the dealer this morning with my $21 inspection coupon and stick with the hacking recall flash. Turns out they had 5 new (since my August oil change) flashes listed for me too. TPM, PCM, TCM, AMP, radio. They told me that one of them had about 120 updates on it. Beats me as the Bluetooth still drops my phone too often. Well, it does downshift smoother, though I really never noticed an issue with it as I come from the Powerglide transmission era.
And they only charged me $10 for the inspection, probably because the vehicle is so new. Nice to have an honest dealer as I would have paid the $21.
Being in upstate NY you probably are only required to pass a NYS mandated "Safety Inspection" which by law they can only charge $10.00 for.
On a side note, your signature lists Nokian WRG3 SUV tires.
I've been a big Nokian fan over the years and used to run their WRG2 tires. Currently I'm running their Rotiva AT all-terrain SUV tires.
How do you like the newer WRG3 SUV tires on your Grand Cherokee??
