Report it. Don't know about NY but in NJ you are required by law to report an accident. There are two types of reports here, one is reported to the insurance company and one is not. Depends on the amount of damage. Cover yourself, screw her.

Re: Another reason to have a bumper guard

Don't waste your time. The cops won't do anything, because they didn't see what happened. If there was damage to your car and you got a license number, perhaps you could call the cops and see if they could take a complaint for hit and run. I was rear ended a couple of months ago and I ended up with $1350 in repair costs to replace a bumper cover and bumper on a sedan. The cop refused to issue a ticket to the other driver because he said the accident was not chargeable because of minor damage to my car. I think he was annoyed that I just didn't pull over and exchange license and insurance information and not call 911. He completed a form and gave me a file number, but said there was no report number because he wouldn't file it as a case. The cop did tell the other driver that she was at fault because she hit me from behind. He told her it didn't matter why I stopped, even it was for a squirrel. She had to leave enough room to stop clear. As it was, I was stopped at a traffic light waiting for a school bus to move forward ahead of me. I didn't do anything to provoke the accident, but it didn't matter. The other driver's insurance company accepted liability, so I have no complaints about the repair.

Just because the damage to the OP car was minor doesn't make this trivial.

He stated it was a hit and run, why would the police not do anything about that?

Re: Another reason to have a bumper guard

I spoke to one of my fathers best friends who is a very very high ranking cop in NY and basically told me it would be a complete waste of my time.. Reason being, nothing will happen to the POS that hit me and as someone on here also mentioned, this most likely isn't her first ride on this rodeo.

Of course if there was damage/injury he said to do it without doubt, but since there is literally nothing on your car, let karma finish her off.

Still up in the air on this...

Re: Another reason to have a bumper guard

It' frustrating. I had something like that happen to me last year in my 2011 GC. I was on a 2-land road that was merging into one and it's usually pretty obvious who goes next, but out of no where two teen age girls just shot ahead of me. I maintained speed and she made the slightest of contact with my car (no damage). I was so pissed when they made a turn on an empty road I shot ahead of them and slammed on my breaks. Got out and said something like "Sit her I'm calling the cops" As I dialed 911 I thought somemore about it, it was going to be them against me and since I had no damage I just left, but I definitely scared the shit out of them.

It's stories like this that car cameras are made for.

By not reporting it ,you put yourself into the same league as she is. Are you comfortable with that?

Actually, it isn't a "hit and run" accident here for several reasons not the least of which the driver of the other vehicle may not even have been aware she clipped Chunderboy's vehicle.

Smart move....depending on where you live, in fraud capital of the world Miami the two teenage girls would have made up some story and had you in handcuffs OR the next day the parents would have made up some story and had yo in handcuffs AND a nice civil lawsuit.

Yep like I said in post #8, move on. Do email yourself all the information so you have it just in case or keep it in a file.
