Question Any downsides to Xpel?

Been reading a lot of great things about Xpel on this site, but just curious if anyone has had or heard any negative things when applying Xpel to your vehicle. Sounds like a great deal, but nothing is hardly always 100%. Thanks for any feedback!

I had the complete front-end including fenders along with the sides. I had the choice of clearbra and 3m (Dealer) both of which I used in the past and wasn't all that happy with. XPEL is amazing in the sense it self heals itself with warm water or the sun, has a finer line so less visible than the other brands and is guaranteed not to yellow/orange over time. You can also you many cleaners on the XPEL that you cannot use on other products. Each will have a difference of opinion and time will tell with the XPEL but so far I am happy with my decision. Don't have the dealer do it, find a certified shop that installs.

Thanks for the input. That seems to be the consensus with everyone so far. Do you happen to know if it affects the paint in anyway? In that I mean if there would be a difference between where it was covered and not once its removed.

I was told that it has no impact on the paint at the time I had it installed, I later got that verified when my friend whacked the front-end of his bimmer and had to have it all removed after 3 years - The sides and top of the hood looked pretty much the same. Of course, I have no plans to remove and so far it has done a great job - I drive on the highway and 8 miles of it is ripped up for paving so this was a must do for me.

I believe the XPEL has a protectant embedded underneath it for the clearcoat paint.

Re: Any downsides to Xpel?

I love mine and has saved the front end a few rock hits. I had a installer come to my house and install...whole front bumper, 22" of hood and front fenders, mirrors, and behind rear wheels from the plastic/metal line around to the first sensor for $750 and they drove an hour each way. Way better than some 3m installs I've seen on a Porsche and a BMW. It seems to lay better on corners and creases and doesn't "spiderweb", and I've put the self healing to the test. I coated mine with some Esoteric signature wax and topped it with Gtechniq C2V3(Todd Cooperider told me treat it like paint). The installer said it won't yellow, but try to use more water based protectants vs solvent based especially on lighter colored vehicles(mine is black) to aid this. I just got back from a trip to Canada, it got coated with bugs and a giant bird bomb...it just washed off, but the bird crap left a little outline so I'm glad it wasn't on the paint. It has no problem with auto touch less car washes, and pressure washers, just don't dwell on the edges, I was told if hit too hard, it could peel a bit. Don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the input! I have a couple installers to choose from in town, so think I'll be going that route. Thinking of getting the whole hood though, will have to see the cost difference.

Re: Any downsides to Xpel?

Is there any discernible difference between a brand new vehicle with Xpel and one without? Is there a clear difference between the two or is it practically indistinguishable?

Re: Any downsides to Xpel?

When I was using Esoteric Signature Wax you couldn't see the line at all, unless you were just at the right angle to catch the line. I've since coated the paint in Gtechniq Exo V2 and Esoteric Wax on the bra topped with Gtechniq C2V3. There is a little bit of a difference in being able to notice the bra on the hood but again, usually only from the correct angle and you have to be looking for it, but from more than say 8-10ft you can't tell.

Re: Any downsides to Xpel?

Here's some shots of the bra...tough to see the line unless you are at the right angle and looking for it. It's also very clear, and when cleaned and protected, there's almost no difference.
