Re: Any of you WK2 owners have/had Wranglers?

I had an '05 LJ (Unlimited version of the TJ) Rubicon. It had: 4.5" Rubicon Express long arm lift, 35" tires, 4.88 gears, 6 speed stick, Poison Spyder rock rails, Poison Spyder Trail Corners, Poison Spyder trail cage, ORO off-road sway bar, Warn gas tank skid, Warn front bumper, Warn 9000 lbs winch, Shrockworks rear bumper with swing out tire carrier, Warn gas tank and steering box skids, heavy duty diff covers (can't remember brand), Superior axle shafts, 1" seat risers, CB and Line-X interior. I'm sure there was other stuff on it, but the more I think about that Jeep the more I want to cry. Should have never sold it.

To answer your question, yes you want the 4.0. I had a YJ in high school with the old 6, I think it was a 4.6, and it was a dog. The 4.0 added some much needed pep to the Jeep. If you can swing a TJ the coil springs ride better. The YJ with leaf springs is cheaper to lift. If your wife is good with rowing her own gears then the manual is the way to go. Both the YJ and TJ were only available with a 3 speed auto and the performance wasn't great.

Here's a picture of my 94 wrangler, I bought her in 98 when I was in HS. I was working 60-80 hours weeks that summer to save up enough cash. I'm over 200k miles. Original engine died around 150k miles. I'm running a Jasper remanufactured inline 6 cyl.

Those 4.0L are great engines, I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage on them.

I agree. I had an 04 Rocky Mountain edition TJ with the 4.0L and a 44 rear. I loved it... I don't know how many times I've said how much I miss it still. I traded it in on a 08 Sahara Unlimited. The latest model of wranglers are underpowered for size/weight compared to my old 4.0, but the ride stability and overall polish is a lot better in the wider model JKs. Don't get me wrong - I loved my JK also. The wrangler isn't the most stable ride out there, but if handled properly, she won't have any issues. I had wranglers from 2004-2011 and never felt like mine was going to roll in an on-road situation. That said, I had the coiled TJ. My brother had an 88 YJ with the leafs... and just from experience, I'd stick with a coil suspension.

The hardest thing may be finding one at your price level, depending on your requirements! I was surprised at the used values of the later model TJs.

Re: Any of you WK2 owners have/had Wranglers?

My wife has a '97 Sahara. She wanted a Wrangler but I convinced her to wait until Chrysler had a chance to make some improvements like they did with the [Grand] Cherokee, including the Quadra-Coil suspension. It does have the 4.0 engine like my '93 Grand Cherokee, which I finally let go with 170K miles to be replaced with a 2011 WK2.

I thought after 15 years she would be ready to part with her Wrangler, but instead she put on expensive new tires (Goodyear Silent Armor). It is loaded (for a Wrangler) with some cosmetic accessories. We did upgrade the tires to 30" and have done Jeep Jamborees. We have 34 years of combined Jeep ownership (17.5 ZJ + 15.5 TJ + 1.0 WK2) so must be happy with the products.

Not anymore. The 2012's have a Pentastar and a new transmission and are pulling 0 to 60 times of about 6.6s -- faster than a HEMI-powered Grand Cherokee.

Re: Any of you WK2 owners have/had Wranglers?

I just sold a 2005 unlimited Rubicon with a 2 1/2'' emu lift 1'' BL 9ti winch 33'' toyo open country tires jeeperman front & back bumpers . Had 4.0 motor lots of fun but getting a little older needed a softer ride and better
MPG the rubi was getting about 10 MPG lifted with 33'' tires. Good Luck
PS i dont miss it! LOL

Re: Any of you WK2 owners have/had Wranglers?

I"ve owned several...last one a '10 sahara with the 3.8...was a dog! Now I love my new GC, but would love to be able to afford a new Wrangler unlimited...especially the MW3 as I'm retired Army Special Forces.
