Re: Any one recommend a good trailer hitch bike rack?

Until now I have always been a fan of Yakima and Thule racks. However, I just purchased a Kuat Sherpa for use on my WK2 and I love it. They aren't cheap, but they are made well. They are also a good bit lighter than the Thule and Yakima racks because they are made from heat treated aluminum instead of steel. My Sherpa only weighs 28 lbs, yet it's rock solid. The Sherpa only holds 2 bikes, but the NV can be expanded to carry 4. Check out http://www.kuatracks.com for more info.

Re: Any one recommend a good trailer hitch bike rack?

I will do another pitch for the Yakima rack that Moose and I presented earlier... It not only has the ability to fit many types of bikes, it also has a built in lock which is a huge plus!

Re: Any one recommend a good trailer hitch bike rack?

^^ The thule is antiwobble, with a locked hitch pin and a built in locking system for the bikes.. Beat that? Well at least for the Ridgeline edition.

I think all will suit needs.

That Sherpa from Kuat looks pretty neat, I like its LBS is lighter then most.

I'm looking to buy another rack and the Kuat Sherpa is top on my list. It's expensive at $429 but it's all aluminum.

Re: Any one recommend a good trailer hitch bike rack?

Have the Thule T2 as they said before it you can buy an extension to make it hold 4. Pricey, but rock solid construction, the bikes won't wobble and it's adjustable to any type of bike from kids to full size road bikes.

Btw How do you guys protect the tailgate from accidently hitting the hitch rack ? I'm worried the the wife "will" do this oopsy sooner or later.

That's one drawback with a folded bike hitch and the auto tailgate lift. When a bike is on, hopefully it's more obvious. Also the reverse sensors also has to be turned off (console switch) to stop the continous warning beep when reversing.

The yakima one that I presented earlier folds flat (parallel to the ground) but also can fold over towards the ground more to allow the rear hatch to close even with bikes on... Still have to be careful though.

Just place a soft rubber pad where the tailgate would hit. When the tailgate hits the pad, it will feel the blockage and stop without any damage.

Reese Has also gotten into the bike rack market. They have a few different versions from 2 to 4 bikes and Wal-Mart sells them.

Re: Any one recommend a good trailer hitch bike rack?

I recently picked up the Thule Ridgeline when it was 20% off at REI. Very solid unit and had the bikes on driving up to 80-85 mph with no sway issues.
