Re: Anybody Considering LR4?

Ahh yes.. the reliability issues. Yeah I'm not very excited about those issues. I have been reading that some of these issues are a "little" bit overstated especially with the newer models AND that the issues are somewhat limited to minor electrical issues that can be fixed with a software update or replacing a module, etc. The other good thing for me is that the dealership is less than a mile up the street from where I live. I can say that if I do have major problems with this new truck I will be jumping back over to a GC Overland! Fingers crossed for no problems though.

I don't know if the lease deal I got is a LR wide offer or not but I did see it at the other LR dealership in my area. I don't know if leasing is an option for you or not but just a suggestion. It worked out for me due to that and the payoff and trade in amount I got through Carmax. FYI Carmax cam in at 2k higher for my '06 X3 than the Stealership did.

Re: Anybody Considering LR4?

Was the price close to the JGC? I looked at them both and they were miles apart in price here in Canada.

It depends on what you are looking at. If you are looking at an Overland Summit and a Base LR4 They are very close both may even be the same like 48k. Now having said that the one I went with is the LR4 HSE with Climate PKG and that bumps up to 54K. BUT, the lease deal and the better than USAA price brought it down to about 2k more than MSRP of the Summit. Yes more expensive but unless you are looking at the HSE LUX model which is getting you above 60K then you are still somewhat in the ballpark

Re: Anybody Considering LR4?

I'm also considering the LR4 along with the GC. Have not taken a test drive yet, but plan to. The styling is stunning, great color selection, good interior space and excellent capability. Check out their brochure and web site, it's very convincing. My only reservation is the reliability history, but I think that's improving. I would be interested in your experience with the new LR4. Good luck.

USAA is an insurance/financial company that caters to the military and certain (Law Enforcement) other gov agencies. They have a car buying program similar to Costco or Affiliate Pricing, etc, etc. It's just a discounted no haggle price.

Re: Anybody Considering LR4?

Looked at the LR4. Wasn't impressed with the reliability reviews, nor the "boxy" look of it. I'm currently driving a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited with close to 190K on the clock that's still running strong. Decided after seeing the awesome job they did with the 2011, to stay with the brand and am taking delivery this week on a Mineral Gray with Light and Dark Frost Beige Overland! Oh yeah, and for almost 30K LESS! I've always felt I'd rather buy the "Top" of one brand, vs. the "Bottom" of another.

I would much rather have a base model Mercedes than a top of the line Kia.

That's awesome that you are getting your new truck this week. Believe me I know the excitement as I just got mine (LR4) home last night. The price gap you mentioned is a little overstated but yes it is correct that there is a significant difference in the price. I ended up with the mid grade HSE with Climate Pkg trim level and at my negotiated price was only about 4k or 5K off of what folks have been getting Summits.
